"Now 20 states and the District of Columbia have helmet laws covering all riders, and 26 states have laws covering some riders, usually people younger than 18. Colorado, Illinois, Iowa, and New Hampshire do not have helmet laws."

Recently Annette Presley's Mum had a run-in with the Avondale council after she had a tree that was damaging her driveway dealt to. Seems common sense has flown out the window up north

478363 2006-08-14 08:51:00 Just reading Gareth Morgan on his trip to the USA,was reminded of this bit....

Being motorcyclists the liberal motorcycle helmet laws were of course most pertinent to us. It’s not that you won’t wear one, it’s that you don’t have to – that’s worth an awful lot to a libertarian. The death toll for motorcyclists in the US is lower than it is here so do we know what we’re doing – apart from this awful Kiwi trait of wanting to control others’ lives?

a little off topic but yes, another issue is that of responsibility. i will personally never ride anything without a full face helmet for safety reasons, and in the case of my dirtbike to try lessen hearing damage lol. my point being making laws for everything means that we dont become responsible for our actions, and responsibility and sensibility are two very important character traits if one intends to ride for more than one accident :)

478364 2006-08-14 09:52:00 Sounds a bit off to me......guess there worried you won't go ahead with replacing it with a native.

A family member runs a business that specialises in nasty tree removal....reakon's a bottle of this at the base will soon mean it will need to be removed ;)

478365 2006-08-14 10:08:00 i'd just poison it/chop it down, and if anyone asks what happened say it wasnt you and someone else must've done it
I wouldn't recommend that. George Bernard Shaw (no that isn't a typo) lost, and is still losing, a lot of money after he chopped down a pohutukawa tree in Royal Oak : www.nzherald.co.nz
I know yours isn't a native and you are with the NSCC but now that it has been brought to the attention of the council, you may want to comply.

I agree with you there Andrew93. I actually wish i had just chopped the bloody thing down and kept stum. But alas I am now caught in the merry go round of battling silly councils decisions made by somebody who thinks they are doing the world a favour but are actually jumped up little twerps that don't take the full picture into account - am i bitter no. am i dessip off - yes !!

478367 2006-08-14 10:38:00 Why not wind a lot of conductive wire around the tree and wait for the next big thunderstorm?

If the council asks what it is for, call it art.

LOL YES! that would be perfect!

except then you might not be allowed to remove what's left afterwards, despite the obvious danger of leaving it there

478369 2006-08-14 12:13:00 Nice post bob! With sufficient wire etc could you turn the tree into a Tesla coil?

BTW, congratulations bob! Well done.....

478371 2006-08-14 12:21:00 Tell them you want to subdivide and put 4 townhouses inplace of that big tree, then explain how much in rates they would miss out on if they wouldnt let you chop it down.

In reply to what you would plug a makita borer hole with; C4 plastic explosive, you can buy it here www.ribbands.co.uk
