707666 2008-09-25 07:12:00 Home network consisting
1. Desktop (Vista Ultimate) : 192.168.1.88
2. Notebook (Win XP Media Centre): 192.168.1.18

The above computers can share files, printer, Internet without any problem.

Now, my friend came with his Asus notebook (Vista Ultimate) and connected to my network and we can share files, Internet etc, without problem but as soon as it is connected to the network, my XP media Centre just disappears from the network! Friend's notebook and the desktop could not see Win XP Media Centre but Media Centre can see all the computers.

What's happenning here?

Cheers :)

707669 2008-09-26 01:40:00 Somehow, we could all see each other this morning when the 3 PCs are turned ON.

We didn't do anything and changed any settings at all! Just can't explain it.

707670 2008-09-26 04:00:00 Master Browser is a service for workgroups, usually 1 pc is the master browser and it goes away to check what pc's are on the network using Netbios. When your mates pc came on the network, it could well of been a master browser on its own network and once on your start to fight over master browser. Its a bit of an old dog is this service and I imagine the media centre wasnt included until the the networked worked out who's who.....I'm not sure if the above is a very good example of how it works, however thats workgroups for ya!
