anyone know wth?

anyone got some?

any opinions?

any security risk? (i suppose it sends a frequency out to everything, possibly to your neighbours)? (i'm not a sparky, but just a thought)

(WTH stands for "What The Hell", only used as for some reason W-T-F is censored, oh and dont read that last bit if ridiculously easily offended)

479730 2006-08-21 22:11:00 They have been around for a while now but only just recenlty got decent speeds - 85Mbps etc. They used to be able to only get 1-2Mbps.
I have sold a few to clients who had tried wireless networks but couldn't get a decent signal at one end of the house.
Sold them 2 of those adaptors and problem sorted.
Only problem is, like wireless, the further apart they are the slower the speed.
Also depends on how many electrical appliances running on the same circuit I think.

479731 2006-08-22 00:25:00 I also looked at them a while ago, and they were a lot dearer, they are now almost at the prices i want to pay

Our house has been re-wired recently and everything in the fusebox is on RCDs, do these thing work ok with RCDs, I think they should but When i have asked (DSE or somewhere similar), I didn't get a really definite answer

Cheers

479732 2006-08-22 01:15:00 The homeplug system will not care if its RCD protected or not.

It uses minimal power in the device, and that power is used phase - to - neutral so no RCD issues arise.

The networking signal is highly unlikely to cause any earth fault currents....

479733 2006-08-22 03:10:00 A friend of mine worked at DSE about a year ago, when they were phasing their equivilant product he managed to get a pair on the cheap . He brought them home in the middle of a LAN and spent the next few hours attempting to get it to work, eventually giving up and running a network cable to his PC .

Ive read a few reviews online, where even with security measure in place its still possible to access the network from a neighbouring property .

From the few cases ive seen (i could count them on 2 hands), security is ****, performance is lacking, and that if you even manage to get it to work . I'd stay away from them unless its a last resort .
