708591 2008-09-29 08:25:00 2x2gig ddr2 800 $111 on pricespy as qazwsxokmijn said

running your own business doesnt mean alot really...we can all go and buy computer partsYeah but NOT at wholesale prices.

frankly I dont give a toss - I supplied prices that any one can look up and they are more than the lowest advertised. Low quality parts usually always cause problems sooner or later.

708592 2008-09-29 08:29:00 all good

yeah high performance can mean anything i guess but he obviously isnt looking for a high performance system so anything bottom line would do surely. i still use supertalent and when i bought it noone knew what it was, cant complain about it either.

just out of curiosity (no attackin you) how about you give him a price on something you consider at the same level. with 2gig of ram and with and without os

708593 2008-09-29 08:36:00 wow, well this turned into a wee bit of a slanging match! :)

so now, the system seems TOO cheap....however, possibly (more than likely), using low quality cheap parts.

thanks for all your responses guys.

I had no idea that 32 bit XP could only see 3GB of RAM.

Thanks again

708594 2008-09-29 08:45:00 we probaly havent helped at all have we? lol have you got a budget in mind or is this gonna be an impulse (with thought :-) ) buy? hueybot3000 (3646)
708595 2008-09-29 08:46:00 I have a rep to keep thanks, I can honestly say out of the 500+ PC's I have built less than 6 have had "natural" hardware failures while in warranty (3 year warranties) - natural meaning Non outside interference- like power surges - I dont supply lower quality equipment on purpose - I'd rather lose a sale than have to spend unchargable time on replacing rubbish - theres no money in selling PC parts like there used to be.

Going from the amount of "cheap" PC's - meaning the budget Dell and Compaqs I get through the door with failed components, I see it all the time.

Most of the better components come with 3+ year warranties - ever wonder why the big manufactures only have 1 year - thats how long they expect the parts to last.

But as I mentioned - I looked up the prices for the parts on Price spy - Now if any person did the same - the price is still way above the quoted - I looked up "Dealer" pricing on parts - still quite a bit higher than $510, the only thing I can think of is some of the parts my be cheaply imported, hence lower than advertised pricing other wise where is the person getting their parts from (legally)
we probaly havent helped at all have we? lol have you got a budget in mind or is this gonna be an impulse (with thought :-) ) buy? :p Prob not. All I'll advice is if the PC is to cheap, expect possible hardware problems.

Make sure what ever is purchased should ALWAYS come with the boxes the components came in, and the OS legally has to have a COA supplied.

Ach, its pretty much an impulse thing (sick of this desktop), but $500 was the max I wanted to spend.....still, you get a way better CPU for that now, than the one im using.

So this guy is either a dodgy dodgy, or getting incredily cheap parts from somehwere?

If hes a dodgy dodgy, but still give warrenty, aint that to my benefit?

708597 2008-09-29 08:56:00 Warranties don't mean much if the person supplying the goods either disappears and /or you have no idea where the parts come from.
When I sell components the customer always gets the packaging, what they do with it is up to them, the supplier is listed on my records against the customer / invoice number, thats so if something ever happens to me and I'm not around any more the records could be looked up if needed.

Most suppliers say in the event of a warranty claim you need to go back through the person/company you got it from & they sometimes supply proof of purchase / invoice number.

Cowboys in this business are a dime a dozen and disappear as fast as they appear, and sometimes dont give receipts.

fair enough.....and true re the disappearing act!, does come with an invoice apparently, and the guy has been on TM since 2005.
however, seems slightly risky eh?

708599 2008-09-29 19:02:00 I'd be a bit skeptical about the motherboard - not a very good brand.

What brand is the PSU and is the Windows XP license legit?

370W for the PSU might not be enough...

Ahem, excuse me sir....!!, nothing wrong with Abit boards, the were the enthusiasts board for years before AMD64 came out. They are now leaving the motherboard market, however to say they are not a good brand is outrageous.

however, seems slightly risky eh? Some one else here will have the answer -

I do know there are a couple of people who sell items on Trade Me that are not to be trusted .

They have been mentioned on the forums a few times - but I don't know their names, they do sell parts at real low pricing, but from whats been said are also very bad to deal with .

Maybe someone who knows the trader can advice their identity ?

At the end of the day its your choice, hopefully you wont get ripped .
