I finally got Avast d/loaded on my 5th attempt on my ify rural dialup, (we can't get b/band here) :-(( I got to say that it has been one of the easiest progys to install and configure as far as I'm concerned. It immediately updated the beasty signatures and found two nasties that SptBot and Adware both missed ! It's a damed site faster than AVG ever was as well. Many thanks to all who replied.
