| 708996 | 2008-10-01 19:01:00 | DDR2 800Mhz does not work on H P machines that max out at 667Mhz. That may well be correct but then you have to explain why the new 1GB stick (800Mhz) works just fine when installed by itself... There is an apparent conflict between the two sticks/motherboard, so I will visit PB Tech again this morning. Thanks for all your input, guys. |

| 708998 | 2008-10-01 20:58:00 | HP Pavilion A1555A, running XP Media Centre, SP3 . Original RAM: DDR PC2-4200U @ 1GB New RAM: DDR2 800Mhz PC6400 @ 1GB (The guy at PB Tech said that PC2-4200 and PC6400 were compatible - please confirm) Hmm - think I've just answered my own question . DDR and DDR2 don't mix, do they? Anyway the question was going to be about the fact that the increased memory does not display . Thanks in advance . . . I assume I'm going to need another stick of DDR2 and throw away the original DDR stick???? Or find another 1GB stick of DDR memory?? ?? eh, both are DDR2!! |

| 708999 | 2008-10-01 21:15:00 | Thanks everyone - all resolved. Turns out the issue was with the new RAM - chips only on one side of the stick, which my "old" (18 months) PC could not read/handle. Now got some Kingston RAM (double-sided) and everything is sweet. | johcar (6283) | ||
