708864 2008-09-30 20:51:00 Hi All
just took over a business and they are with xtra - i would like to change to a different ISP (for many reasons!) but is there any way to keep the same email with xtra.co.nz?

if your intent is to cancel the businesses xtra account and take the @xtra.co.nz addresses to another ISP, Nope not possible. Xtra wont give you free email addresses.

What I'd suggest is putting those email addresses on the cheapest plan you can get them onto and then diverting any mail sent to them to your actual email address with the ISP your wanting to use.

The technical reason is that Xtra own the domain name xtra.co.nz thats associated with the address and will only provide service to it if they are paid :)

You can have an "email only" account that costs 3 or 4 dollars a month.

Unless they have changed it, but has been available for a long time

I haven't checked for quite a while, but I think it was $2.50 a month per address? They don't advertise it, but hopefully they'll still do it.

Yes.
Ring them and ask for it to be changed to an email only account ($2.50 a month), and get them to put a forward on it - to your new email address.

708871 2008-10-01 00:28:00 Arent xtra increasing all the data caps on all of their plans? utopian201 (6245)
708872 2008-10-01 01:00:00 are they? - am actually surprised that xtra's data caps are so low with all the competition these days cajetan (8513)
708873 2008-10-01 01:13:00 yep - their new plans look surprisingly good!

(would take a lot more improvement in everything else to make me consider them again tho)

I suppose other ISP's will follow up with something similar soon enough now tho
