479649 2006-08-20 07:02:00 I heard a rumour that call centres are going overseas. Telecom and several other companies are considering moving their call centres to off shore locations e.g: singapore. This is bad news for frustrated telecom users such as you and I becuase we will be unable to understand the accents. One comapny has already done the move and the end result is bad. Press the purple button gets mangled into "pes the puper buttin" (phonetic spelling).
Is this a good desicion for companies to make?

Please do not be offended by this post, it is not intending any ethnic or racial predjudice.

479650 2006-08-20 07:23:00 Yes, it is "interesting" ringing Dell.
Once a replacement part showed up that was riddled with bad spelling and just the wrong words. For example, it had Sawyers Bay instead of Sayers Building..

Many companies have found this move is bad (although it depends on the tasks assigned)..

Telecom and others have already off loaded their call centres to overseas companies. If Telecom wants more for "output" for less dollar, the contractor will shift the actual location of the operators. I don't think Telecom or the other companies are actually making any decisions as to where their call centres are located, they obviously just don't care. If you don't think you are getting the level of service that you expect, complain.

Oh please. Bad for those who will lose jobs here but have you rang Telecom or anyone lately? Most of them are up in Auckland, a city with a multi-racial population and you are more than likely to get a variety of accents now.
Indian, asian etc.
Its not that hard to understand them.

479653 2006-08-21 13:15:00 This thread reminds me of Billy T's "Call Centres" joke:

Mujibar was trying to get a job in India .

The Personnel Manager said, "Mujibar, you have passed all the tests, except one . Unless you pass it you cannot qualify for this job . "

Mujibar said, "I am ready . "

The Manager said, "Make a sentence using the words Yellow, Pink and Green . "

Mujibar thought for a few minutes and said, "Mister Manager, I am ready . "

The Manager said, "Go ahead . "

Mujibar said, "The telephone goes green-green, green-green, and I pink it up, and say, 'Yellow, this is Mujibar . "

Mujibar now works as a technician at a Dell-Service call center .
