2008-10-02 05:51:00 | I want to store data on an external hd. My old lap top is struggling. I have already taken a copy of everything which is stored on the 80gb ext drive, (Shadow Protect). What is the safest way for me to move things around to reduce the load on the laptop?

2008-10-02 06:05:00 | How do I this without having to change all links to E drive | chocolate2006 (11426) | |
2008-10-02 06:11:00 | Well unless you change the other partitions drive letters you can't I don't think, have you thought about getting a bigger HDD for the lappie and cloning it then putting the new one into the lappie easily done and a new drive can be had for just over $100 | gary67 (56) | |

2008-10-02 06:28:00 | No with the right software you can attach a new hdd in a ext case and copy exactly your old hdd to the new bigger one without losing anything it will even copy windows then you can replace the old hdd with the new bigger one and have lots of free space again | gary67 (56) | |
2008-10-02 06:33:00 | Oh OK that made sense! Many thanks. I've done half of that, now I'll get a bigger int Hdd and transfer the data already copied to the ext hdd onto the new int drive....right? | chocolate2006 (11426) | |
2008-10-02 06:40:00 | You can but you will need the software to copy windows as well usually can be downloaded free from the manufacturer of the drive you buy and you would need to copy windows across first and it has to be cloned you can't just copy and paste windows | gary67 (56) | |
2008-10-02 07:14:00 | Yes I've already done that with Shadow Protect. Thanks for all your help :) | chocolate2006 (11426) | |
