482336 2006-09-03 02:26:00 Yes, an IT person who likes nature...

Apparently the Karori Wildlife Centre has some bell birds which have started populating the Wellington area. As I sit here at my pc, I can hear a bell bird (well I think its one). Amazing. The wildlife centre is 20Kms away.

482339 2006-09-03 03:14:00 Ring the Karori Wildlife Sanctuary....04-9209200. They are keeping a record of hearings/sightings of native birds in the Wellington region.
One of my neighbours recently had Tuis in her back garden, I'm hoping they will investigate the bush at the back of my section.

482341 2006-09-03 03:47:00 Ok, I probably got my bird name wrong, since I have no idea about birds, but apparantly they sound the same as another bird that is fairly common.... But with my such limited knowledge, I probably shouldn't even be replying to this thread... meh. mejobloggs (264)
482342 2006-09-03 08:59:00 Bellbirds and tui can sound very similar. The bellbird has a slightly more "liquid" tone. I can't describe it in words. TGoddard (7263)
482343 2006-09-03 10:21:00 Get Bellbirds in Paraparaumu but they probably come over from Kapiti Island. It is nice to see and hear them. Pato (2463)

Have a listen and tell us if it was in fact a bellbird (male and female mp3's):

Or if it was a Tui:
