481417 2006-08-30 08:54:00 Or rather, the "g33k factor"? I have heard of the term "geeks", but I simply don't understand the meaning of "geek factor". Hopefully someone can shed some light on this.

Cheers :)

481420 2006-08-30 09:50:00 Thanks PCTek

I put myself in this category.

Reclaiming and self-identification

Geek has always had negative connotations within society at large, where being described as a geek tends to be an insult. The term has recently become less condescending, or even a badge of honor, within particular fields and subcultures; this is particularly evident in the technical disciplines, where the term is now more of a compliment denoting extraordinary skill. There is an increasing number of people who self-identify with the term, even when they don't fit the classic geek profile which emphasizes high intelligence but social isolation and loneliness as a result.

I guess I do not identify with people that much. I can trust a dog and a cat for that matter. I have never been bitten by a dog and have once been scratched by a cat. People have other agendas from time to time. My dog or cat has never lied to me. That's only because I don't speak dog or cat languange.

I know when they want food though.

481421 2006-08-30 09:54:00 take the test (www.thudfactor.com)..

The geek factor is a component/element of some (usually technological) device/system that has a novel "twist" (i.e. cunning design) to it.

For example, USB powered desk lamps.. or that magnetic "latch" on the new mac laptops.

Or simply you could say: it is a characteristic that appeals to geeks...

I still don't understand, though . So let's say I have a USB-powered mug heater, does this mean I am loaded with geek factor?

Cheers :)

You are 54% geek
You are a geek . Good for you! Considering the endless complexity of the universe, as well as whatever discipline you happen to be most interested in, you'll never be bored as long as you have a good book store, a net connection, and thousands of dollars worth of expensive equipment . Assuming you're a technical geek, you'll be able to afford it, too . If you're not a technical geek, you're geek enough to mate with a technical geek and thereby get the needed dough . Dating tip: Don't date a geek of the same persuasion as you . You'll constantly try to out-geek the other .

481426 2006-08-30 12:22:00 Products can have an appeal because of the geek factor, this means probably that it has lots of tweaks and is a challenge to use and also it should be ahead of its time so he can impress fellow geeks. zqwerty (97)
