www.youtube.com

The youtube video covers how to make a taser from a disposable camera.

I suppose anythign with a big kick capacitator in it will work.

481236 2006-08-29 23:48:00 Bound to be covered by one of the many categories of offensive weapons, which include things made as such, things altered to be used as such and things which are not in the first two categories but which are intended as such - like an ordinary hammer. Scouse (83)

Not quite, you need a good power source (high capacity lithium-ion batteries?) a high-energy inverter to generate the 5kV voltage, a system to hold the wires in a manner that can be unwound at high speed, and a method of "firing" the wires & contact barbs at high speed into the victim.

A charged capacitor alone is no great use as it will only deliver a single jolt that won't do much to stop an attacker. The Taser delivers 5kV into a low impedance load (human body) for 5+ seconds per shot.

Make one (that actually works properly) out of a camera? I don't think so somehow.

481238 2006-08-30 07:36:00 Checked the video, that's nothing like a Taser, it's simply a one-shot zapper device that works at a voltage considerably lower than that of a Taser .

It would make you jump, and might hurt a little, but not enough to worry about unless you had a weak heart and got zapped on the chest or from one hand to the other .

Cheers

481239 2006-08-30 08:07:00 Excuse me, Mr Burglar. Can you please stand still while I charge my camera and deliver a minor shock to your arm? TGoddard (7263)
481240 2006-08-30 15:38:00 I would like to see you take on a Police with one of those tasers :P

Also those police ones are a little inhumane eh?

481242 2006-08-31 00:30:00 I'm not saying to carry a gun but find something that doesn't kill/severely injure a person. This is not a case of one taser fits all. As people with health issues have died from them. trinsic (6945)

I find it amusing that tasers are described by the police as "less lethal", rather than "non-lethal". So it'll only kill you a little bit, or for a short time. Great - good to know!

As for tazers... a home made one needn't be limited to a single capacitor, you could have several set to discharge in series over several seconds, or use long discharge capacitors, for such beasties exist.
