This used to be well known.

Yes. Millions of SPCA workers, animal control staff, and other people engaged in making animals lives happier in a small way are never mentioned or heard of. You only get recognition and fanmail if you throw yourself around in front of cameras.

Dear SPCA,

Thank you for putting all those fluffy kittens to death. Can I ask what you do with the bodies?

Regards

PS-I know where you live.

482570 2006-09-08 10:46:00 Sorry to get to the Germaine Greer thread a little late, but I just wanted to say as a Brit I am pretty appalled by this womans point of view. What ever she beleives, she has proven that she has the compassion of ice. She is I am told an intelligent academic and a free thinker. This does not give her licence for either her idiocy or lack of basic human understanding. She has proven to be a limited vicious narrow minded dried out little woman, it is a great shame that she has become so very small. I never watched a great deal of Steve Irwin (my mistake) but he has very clearly touched the heart of the entire planet, millions grieve for his loss. So vew few of us will ever make such an impact. He has made a change to the world in the way we view wildlife, he and his family have done something notable ,quantifiable and hugely important, sorry Germaine but you have not and I doubt you ever will. Academics like her dont have an idea about what the world is really about and how it really ticks , In her case the saying "Those who can do do and those who can't teach" is pretty apt. I never saw Steve Irwin put animals under stress unless it was unavoidable to capture them to avoid them being Killed and so on. The amount of good he and those like him have done to the planet is immeasurable. I will listen to people like Germaine Greer when they have actually done something that has materially affected this world for the better. She did have promise once but that was long ago and unlikely to be repeated.

I consider myself an average joe I am nothing special I have done nothing like Steve Irwin and his Family did for Wildlife awareness. I will never be that well known. I try and do my bit although thats not much by comparison. What I do know without a seconds doubt is that having 5 advanced Degrees and three PhDs has equipped me merely to begin to understand the world and the real importance to the world of people like Mr Irwin , they who have changed it for the better. Ms Greer unfortunatly thinks her PhD gives her the knowledge of God, it doesnt she may not be a fool but she is an idiot. She has so very much to learn yet, but I guess that is not going to happen.

CROCS RULE MATE Rest in Peace Steve. I have a real feeling that although Steve was not the first Irwin to champion Wildlifes cause he will not be the last either. Trust me in this when I say that the next Generation of Irwins are destined for even greater things.

482571 2006-09-12 21:13:00 Does anyone know if this is true? (received today by email)

I want to inform Creation Ministries International, that Steve Irwin became a born again Christian two and a half weeks ago at the Kings Church AOG Buderim, Queensland Australia, going forward publicly before the congregation to ask Christ to become his Lord and Saviour.

I smell a hoax, but could not find any info (pro or con) via Google.

They cremate them.
They do euthanise animals but they don't make a spectacle in public with them first.

482574 2006-09-13 06:40:00 If it is true that he did the Christian thing just before he was killed, it makes one wonder if his judgement was clouded by religious 'brainwashing'. It is strange that a man who avoided injury and fatal attacks for many years would get too close to a stingray. So much for being born again. Rutherford (10399)

Here in the US they make ice cream additives and chewy candies outta them...they are just rendered by knackering into protein soup and then they are used in candies and foodstuffs.

"Companion animals" are primarily gathered along with dropped beef (cows that go "plunk in the night"), and the resultant product finds it's way into many things that are edible. :nerd:
