482739 2006-09-09 05:27:00 You aren't aloud to use your fog lighs unless it is foggy no other time day or nightWanna point us to the applicable law about that? Sounds like crap to me. Greg (193)
482740 2006-09-09 06:02:00 Meh, I heard about this one months ago, Took notice as the fog lights on one of our cars seem to run all the time.

From the ltsa.govt.nz website.

Fog lamps should only be used when visibility is severely reduced, eg by snow or fog. It is against the law to use fog lamps in clear conditions (day or night) as they can dazzle other road users.

482745 2006-09-09 10:09:00 Actually I like these 4WD's which have the nudge bar mounted spot lights usually yellow in colour. Perfect day and these lights are on. Must have been foggy when they left home :D dolby digital (5073)
482746 2006-09-09 11:23:00 I understand thar Canaian law is the all new vehicles from around the year 1998 must have a system that puts headlights on at 80% power with ignition switch and cut road deaths by a significant amount. Arnie (6624)
482747 2006-09-09 11:25:00 When driving on the open road, I always switch my headlights on (low beam of course).

The theory being that the idiot who is overtaking other traffic heading towards me will "see" that there is someone (me) approaching him and he will pull back into "his" line of traffic and let me safely continue on my way.

The law about driving with fog lights on, relates to yellow lamps.

Under normal driving conditions, a motor vehicle may only be driven with white lights pointing forward and red lights facing aft. You are not allowed to drive a motor vehicle with red lights facing the front, and white facing the rear.

It all relates to safety.

Likewise, it is illegal to park your motor vehicle directly facing oncoming traffic on the left hand side of the road.

482748 2006-09-10 02:34:00 Zippity has hit the point. It's really about predictability. But it's a bit odd that yellow is forbidden. It's certainly not anything like red, which would certainly produce the wrong perception. ;) The trouble might be that laws are written by lawyers, and as far as they're concerned yellow is not white. There is no room for "commonsense" in the law. If commonsense was common, who would need lawyers? Graham L (2)
