If this were not so, humans could never have cooperated to form tribes and societies. Our whole concept of community relies upon trusting each other and if we couldn't, then it would be everyone for themselves.

Even if a Hitler/Stalin type managed to head up a World Government, they wouldn't last. Having said that, the price of freedom is eternal vigilance (Thomas Jefferson).

The leaders of the "free" world are just getting better at hoodwinking everyone, by implementing changes ever so slowly now. (see recent example of a small change (www.nzherald.co.nz)). So that people will come to accept these as normal.

Everybody is looking at how to make the next mortgage payment, buy the next consumer item, hold onto their own job. They are all too busy to notice what is slowly happening around them. This is actually the real plan.

Eventually we will all be happy little consumer slaves, paying a regular amount of interest to banks. Exactly what business wants. This is a much higher "tax" on people than what now goes to the government. As you all know there are now many businesses bigger then goverments.

482196 2006-09-05 01:54:00 According to people who invest in oil futures, it will be $66.80 in Dec 2012 (futures.tradingcharts.com), so we still have sometime before we have to panic. These guys are probably the most knowledgable, especially when their own money is invested in these predictions. KiwiTT_NZ (233)

Yes I appreciate that Stalin was a spectacularly bad man who was never overthrown. And the millions of dead can never be brought back. Nevertheless, if you look at the tyrants of history, their regimes have faded and societies have flourished.

As to being consumer slaves - ever it was thus. The existence of sufficent food has only occurred in the past 50 years, and there are still humans who starve. People have always worked to obtain food, clothing, and shelter. It's just that today we expect to go way beyond that in our buying power.

The real threat isn't world government - instead it is that we are 6 billion in a biosphere which can only sustainably support 2 billion. The environment is going to collapse soon (leave aside global warming) because we are consuming and killing biota faster than it can reproduce.

UN says we enough food being produced (www.ucsusa.org)
While the world population is expected to reach eight billion by 2030, growth in global agriculture should be more than sufficient to meet world demand.

I'd take info from those with vested interests with a huge pinch of salt, remembering that futures and hedging works both ways .
