Unless you use phpBB in which case you may not be welcome unless its the latest version.

481583 2006-08-31 08:04:00 Dreamhost is exceptional value for money - though reliability isn't incredibly good, which doesn't matter for a non-mission critical commercial website. somebody (208)
481584 2006-08-31 08:32:00 I also use Dreamhost and have had reasonable service. I don't like their control panel much though. I'm currently considering other options for hosting as I'm nearing the end of the year I bought.

When I signed up there I used the promo code RAILSROCKS and got the maximum discount possible :) (I got this code from the Ruby on Rails wiki. Nobody is taking a cut from its use).

I'm actually surprised at the number of people here that have accounts with hosts that oversell at such extremes. What sort of download speeds do you get off your accounts?

481586 2006-08-31 10:18:00 I get the maximum my ADSL connection can take - so 2mbits. The case with Dreamhost is that when things are working, they work very well. BUT, when things break down (which happens every now and then), you can't access your website/email for hours, or any sort of changes you make in the control panel not taking effect for several hours. They recently had a big outage due to network issues, then UPS and power supply issues (same building which houses Myspace.com, which also suffered downtime a month or so ago), which lasted several days - sites would be accessible for a while, then it would go offline for a while.

So, I stand by my comment that it's "value for money" - for people who's incomes don't depend on their websites. If you need maximum uptime, then go elsewhere. I personally don't mind the servers going down once every few months, because when they are working, they are fast - this includes several MYSQL/PHP driven sites I run. And of course, they are cheap (I paid NZ$37.63 or something along those lines for 1 year of hosting).
