481245 2006-09-01 01:48:00 I have a mate in the police who has just been through the training with them....he got hit twice & said he'd rather not again, bloody hurts! Said it left him with a couple of bruises where the probes latch on. Once they hit you & deliver the 1st shot IF the person starts to get angry again before they can rip out the probes they can deliver addditional shocks. They will be in the car locked up like they have the guns in the cars.

Cheers

481246 2006-09-02 00:52:00 i dont understand the whole taser issue, i dont intend to be on the receiving end, do you? if not what's the issue? if so, so what? criminals forfeit their rights as a citizen the moment they begin to offend.

i dont intend to be assaulting police, so why would it matter? tasers just make the lives of law abiding citizens and police that little bit safer.

lol i even asked a cop for a ride last night as my date was really too drunk to walk home, which was going to take an hour (there isnt any taxis at 3:30am, luckily a sober mate drove past and picked us up at about 4am)

481247 2006-09-02 08:43:00 As for tazers . . . a home made one needn't be limited to a single capacitor, you could have several set to discharge in series over several seconds, or use long discharge capacitors, for such beasties exist .
You're dreaming RC, there's no way you can produce an equivalent like that, I made an error in my earlier post and it is 50,000 volts you are looking for .

As for their use by Police, like many other law-abiding citizens I don't give a toss how many crims get pepper-sprayed, whacked with a pacifier, tazered, or contract lead poisoning . Anybody who hurls wheel rims at the Police or offers gratuitous violence to anybody (other than a fellow crim) deserves to receive return fire IMHO, and in the US they would have been taken out before they even got it to shoulder height .

I've always kept my nose clean, walked away from trouble and never had a problem in any of my odd encounters with the boys in blue . Even got a ride home once on a cold winter's night when I still had a couple of miles to walk .

I was brought up to understand that I had free will, could do whatever I liked whenever and however I wanted, but that consequences would flow if I stepped outside the house rules, or those of decent society .

My heart bleeds for our poor downtrodden crims .

Cheers

A number of people have been killed by tasers, thats the problem.
Also they are too powerfull, something like this can encourage bad behaviour by police officers

Anyone who commits a crime deserves to get tazered... Twice.

The Police should also walk around with Bean Bag shotguns...

481250 2006-09-04 06:04:00 My distrust of the police comes from personal experience. I was not directly involved but witnessed an unprovoked assult by the police on a teenager that was clearly not resisting.

He was struck in the head by a long baton with considerable force.

I went to get the officers number to report it, and was intercepted by a second officer and told to leave immediatly or face arrest.

Trust the police? Not a bit.

481251 2006-09-06 00:04:00 new long range Tasers are being invented, with an explosive charge!!

. newscientisttech . com/article/dn9996-invention-longrange-stunner . html" target="_blank">www . newscientisttech . com

The range of Taser stun guns could be dramatically increased by allowing them to generate the voltage they need to disable victims in mid-flight, say inventors in the US .

The range of conventional Tasers is limited by the wires that carry the voltage - typically between 20 and 150 kilovolts - from the gun to the dart’s electrodes .

One option is to fit the dart with a piezoelectric material which produces a voltage dependent on the strength of impact . But since darts slow significantly in-flight due to air resistance, this sort of wire-free device only lands with enough impact to generate a significant voltage over short ranges .

Three inventors in the US have now devised a long range stun gun which delivers a shock of 40 kilovolts, over a distance of about 150 metres, even if the dart hits with a low impact .

The new dart contains a small explosive charge which detonates when it hits the target . The explosion squeezes piezoelectric materials and this generates a powerful voltage delivered to the victim via needle-like electrodes that pierce the skin .

481252 2006-09-06 03:18:00 Perhaps the police could just get a lightweight version of the harpoons used in whaling. After all, if the target is dead it saves all the trouble of a trial. Graham L (2)
