709215 2008-10-02 07:28:00 Just got my new LG LCD Monitor and it has 2 signal cables: a HDMI/DVD cable and a 15-pin D-Sub Signal Cable. My graphic card has got 2 DVI input sockets; I got to use an adapter for the other cable.

When I plug in the HDMI/DVD cable alone, it doesn't work, with error saying that it is searching for signal ( or something to that effect). I have to plug in the other cable, having 2 signal cables from the monitor to the PC.

Question: Is this the way it should be connected to utilize the 'digital' signal? Nothing much mentioning about cable connection in the user manual - very brief.

Could someone explain it to me the above?

Thanks

You may have to buy a DVI - DVI cable if it didn't come with one. Does the monitor itself have a DVI input or just an analogue input. I assume that some of the cheaper monitors the manufacturers save money by not including all the cables with it.

Maybe I did not make myself clear enough:

The monitor has 1 x DVI out and 1 x Analog (blue - traditional) out. My PC has 2 x DVI inputs sockets. Does it really matter which DVI output to use? In normal circumstances, do I need to plug in both the DVI and analog cables?

The monitor comes with a Driver CD. Do I need to install driver for the monitor??

When you say your PC has two DVI inputs, don't you mean outputs, as you are outputing the signal from your computer into themonitor? You just need to use one DVI-DVI cable, to connect it between your monitor (DVI input) and PC (DVI output). Your PC has two DVI outputs, so it is possible to use your computer with Dual screens should you want to. I don't think it matters which DVI output you use on your graphics card if you only have one screen, but you do need to make sure that the monitor is enabled in your display properties, and you are using a proper DVI-DVI cable. By default I think it should work without any issues WHen I purchased a monitor a few years ago, it only came with a DVI-DSUB cable so I have to purchase a DVI-DVI cable.

Both of the PC's video outputs are DVI and I have to use an adapter to get it to work. There is a DVI to DVI (the smaller end is connected to the Monitor and bigger end connected to the PC) cable came with the monitor.

Is the video card (ASUS ENGTX280) causing the problem of the LG monitor? Or, there is some settings in the BIOS setup to use DVI output?

709220 2008-10-02 19:14:00 Does the monitor have a button, to switch between VGA or DVI??

Like some monitors do?

If it does, press it

Good morning, Speedy. You are dead right, there's a input selection button where I can change inputs. Digital signal much 'richer' than analog signal!

:thanks ALL
