482542 2006-09-04 13:05:00 This is a tragic story, my 5 year old son is devastated, Steve was one of his heros, he wanted to work for Steve in his zoo when he grows up.

I feel sorry for his young family.

482545 2006-09-04 22:59:00 Ever since I heard about Steve's accident with the stingray I have been wondering just how it happened as those creatures are not aggressive . They usually only attack when trodden on or threatened - they normally just "fly" away when approached . It is very rare for people to die from an attack so poor Steve was obviously extremely unlucky .

I thought he may have been trying to swim on its back or hitch a ride with it but the reports in the news this morning say that he swam over it in shallow water . That must have made the stingray feel threatened sufficiently to cause it to act in self-defence .

It is all very sad . :(

I think you got it exactly right.

If you see film of these fish they can swing their tail with astonishing speed and accuracy.

His huge personality on TV made you feel like he was actually speaking to you, and created a sense that you knew him personally.
