709969 2008-10-06 05:46:00 In the last 12 hours I've received two spam messages from local companies, which appear to be using a local company "Zeald" to send the emails. The messages are very obviously blatant spam: "URGENT Notice: Seminar Im going to that you should too", and another one "The world is in economic turmoil" advertising a variety of seminars.

The "companies" are Bricks & Mortgages, which happens to have the same postal address as the other company "Richmastery" - 7 Daly St Lower Hutt.

Fortunately between the two emails there are three 0800 numbers and a couple of local numbers, so if anyone is willing to ring them and abuse them on my behalf, feel free to PM me...

As these are local companies, it should be easier to take action against them under the Unsolicited Electronic Messages Act 2007. Does anyone have any advice on what I should do, as it is rare for me to receive spam of this nature.

Has anyone else received these messages?

709970 2008-10-06 05:59:00 International vs National e-mail spam - does it matter how you choose to treat them? Or unless you are trying to be proactive?

Cheers :)

I want to be proactive in this case, since the sender is within NZ jurisdiction and it was clearly unsolicited messages being sent - it is very rare that spammers leave so much evidence of who they really are, how to get in contact with them (at their cost via 0800 numbers), and so on.

709972 2008-10-06 06:43:00 Been hearing a lot of adverts on the radio lately - they actually call it as Email-Marketing and it all boils down to spam, plain and simple, no matter what you call it.

Call them Zeald (www.zeald.com) and complain.

Call them Zeald ( . zeald . com/Services/Email+Marketing . html" target="_blank">www . zeald . com) and complain .

Yup - I avoided posting a link to their website since PF1 gets so much search engine traffic - it'd almost be exactly what they want .

709975 2008-10-06 07:17:00 Actually, on second thoughts I might post the 0800 numbers here so people can contact the companies and let them know what they think about their marketing tactics (name and shame):

Bricks & Mortgages: 0800 557 654 and 0800 55 01 55
Richmastery: 0800 742 462

709976 2008-10-06 07:26:00 Jamuz - you are a bit out of line there.

Email marketing is not illegal in NZ. There are dozens of companies who offer this service.
There are regulations and standards that have to be adhered to and provided this is done it is perfectly legal and acceptable.

What you have done is irresponsible and not very helpful.

Sending of unsolicited electronic messages is illegal, which is precisely what this company is doing. This is different from email marketing.

Its only acceptable if A . You have opted for it by writing down your email address somewhere or signing upto something and B . If they provide you with a opt-out link whereby you will no longer receive those messages .

Legal? I dont think so .
