709946 2008-10-06 04:50:00 Hi there,

Am looking at getting some RAM for a friends desktop. Its a Dell Dimension C521, so according to its manual/ website takes DDR2 ram, up to 1 GB, in pairs (if 2 slots) and it must be non ECC and unbuffered. Fine.

She is on Vista Home Basic (I know, don't start please :) ) . Is there any advantage of 667 MHz vs 533MHz?

As to where to get it, my first option is consumables.co.nz, but they are a bit more expensive than others. Is brand name a safer bet? I see on pricespy 'Kingston ValueRAM', should I be concerned about the 'value' part?

Sorry for so many questions. Cheers in advance for any help.

709947 2008-10-06 05:19:00 I used 'Kingston ValueRAM' in a recent upgrade of my lappy. All good, I've very happy. :) R.M. (561)
709948 2008-10-06 05:25:00 Depends on who you ask, whether a RAM module is generic or proprietary does not really matter. Some of these sticks come with better warranty deals, so be sure to check out this aspect!

Cheers :)

709949 2008-10-06 05:39:00 Nothing wrong with Value ram that I know of using in two of my desktops according to the corsair RAM guide results here (www.corsairmemory.com) it should use 553Mhz. Try Ascent.co.nz for prices or laptopbatteries.co.nz for more prices gary67 (56)
709950 2008-10-06 05:59:00 And if you manage to find any RAM available for $15.70 then tell me XD. Desperate need for RAM hahaha. CaptainVincent (76)

709952 2008-10-06 06:06:00 Thanks a lot. Another question; All the memory I am looking at says PC2-4200 (for the 533MHz variety) but in the Dell manual says "If you install mixed pairs of DDR2 533-MHz (PC2-4300)".

Should I be worried that the number is the same? The situation is the same for the 667 speed too.

709953 2008-10-06 06:09:00 Ok also the Kingston website says that 667MHz is okay for the computer. Sounds like the way to go. GorCh (13021)
