484516 2006-09-13 21:15:00 Why not!?.Lets do it.As the government is going to pay for it,it will become N.Z's first "National Stadium".The tank farm land is crying out for a stadium to be built on it.

I'd suggest something similar to The new Munich Stadium - Allianz Arena

Images: www.allianz-arena.com

I think the blue colour would blend in well with the harbour and be appropiate for the Auckland Blues. The great part,is you can change the illuminated colour.

Facts: www.allianz-arena.com

Nuts & Bolts: www.allianz-arena.com

*Cost $669 million on current currency values.
*Seat 69,000 inclusive of corporate boxes.
*Time to build 3 years
*Inflated foil panels form the external and roof structure, thus making it lightweight and very strong.Wind pressure resistance is 22 ton.Ideal for waterfront.

If the Government can spend $771 million of taxpayers money on helicopters [which cost heaps to maintain]with-out public debate. Then it can fork out $669 million for a National Stadium for the RWC 2011.

www.defenseindustrydaily.com

As the Government would have full ownership of this Stadium they obviously will make substantial money from the RWC 2011 & CWC 2015.Not forgetting its other uses such as Super 14 - Concerts - Rugby League. This would be a strong revenue stream.Quite possibly better than Air New Zealand. Also owned by the Govt.Suffice to say,The name would be Air New Zealand National Stadium.

Time is of the essence.Do it!

484517 2006-09-13 21:32:00 Why not use the Cake Tin in Wellington for the Final ?
Why does it have to be in Auckland ?

NOTE: I am an Aucklander, but I don't see a need to waste money.

Where the heck is it going to go on the waterfront????
Parking would be an interesting issue and the amount of traffic and wear and tear. Just imagine the city during big matches. Wouldn't be worth getting out and about...

There are plenty of stadiums to work on over making another one with our money.

484520 2006-09-14 00:01:00 Why can’t they just redo Eden Park or use the new north shore Stadium?? (Although I don’t know how many people the north shore Stadium can hold)

Any way the waterfront can be use for something better :) ;)

Also if they remove the tanks from the tank farm land where would all the oil & petrol come from then?

484521 2006-09-14 00:28:00 The waterfront is a dumb idea - traffic and parking alone, as mentioned, would be a nightmare. If a new stadium had to be built East or South Auckland would be way better. Greg (193)
484522 2006-09-14 01:24:00 You can't just plonk a stadium at the bottom of town without any thought about infrastructure support. There is no public transport access (or room for any) to Tank Farm. The motorway exit at Fanshawe Street is already jam-packed most times - adding the ability for 50000 people to go watch a rugby game would not help in alleviating Auckland's horrible traffic congestion.

If the government (please remember, they spend OUR money) is going to open it's wallet, there are plenty of higher priority issues in Auckland to spend money on than yet another stadium.

As regards North Harbour Stadium, I believe it seats around 20000 - build the North Stand and you double that - build an East and West stand and you could provide for another 10000 - 15000 people. But again, infrastructure (parking and traffic management - of which NSCC is renowned not to be particularly good at!) will be an issue that would need to be resolved ahead of time.

484523 2006-09-14 01:35:00 Who needs North Harbour Stadium, Eden Park and Mt Smart when you've got Aucklands pride and joy in Pukekohe. The government should spends its money upgrading Growers Stadium, plus that would mean that Counties dont have to play at Mt Smart. Pete O'Neil (6584)
484524 2006-09-14 02:45:00 Why not!?

Because Auckland is bad enough for traffic now. There would be people from overseas coming to see the sports right? So how are they supposed to get there? Sit in traffic for hours?

Another city is a much better idea.

484525 2006-09-14 02:58:00 "The government should spend its money" on a new/improved stadium for Auckland, on broadband Internet access, on ...

Are these the voices of those who love the free market, and hate socialism?
