The waterfront position in Auckland is now out as the ports aren't going to move in time."

Apparently Carlaw park isnt big enough on its own but there is adjacent land that can be used. I mean its part of the Auckland Domain. The largest park in Auckland.

I hope you are right about the ports of Auckland saying no, that would be great, ...Are Carlaw park or that awesome looking design for the manukau harbour still on the table or have they been dismissed for some reason. I'm glad the waterfront has been dismissed but I hope they dont go back to Eden park either.

Either carlaw or the manukau stadium would be good. either way I dont mind, but not the waterfront, and not Eden Park.

484577 2006-11-07 03:39:00 The Port of Auckland are stroking their fat ones, Trying to say "Its our area, we have the power", They will quite rightly be ignored and have to pull finger, just like all parties involved if that is the dedicated location.

Anyhow, Carlaw Park?....I heard Danny Watson crush the idea a week ago, Simply because he didn't think of it first, and as we all know the real foward thinkers in this country are on Newstalk ZB, Hell, Why don't we vote them clever cookies into Government.....

The government could just kick them off. However the Auckland water front is not the right place for a great number of reasons. Firstly the wharves aren't on reclaimed land (there is water underneath), therefore they would have to reclaim a whole lot of land to build the stadium on first, which would take a couple of years, which would probably cost half the cost of the stadium.

The politicians see the Wellington stadium everyday and like it ,and want auckland to have its own version, however the wellington stadium was build on reclaimed land, and is next to a transport hub. The auckland location have neither of these things going for it. You have to remember that politicians aren't the brightest people, and this fiasco just proves it.

Certainly they should be putting more of our money that we pay them into health to improve our quality of lives.

484581 2006-11-07 06:35:00 To summarise. We want a 'national stadium'; but can't agree on where to site it; and don't want to permanently deface the waterfront, ruin the port, or block the views to rangitoto, and we don't want to pay for it either.

In that case, lets build a floating stadium! It would be designed so that it could towed from Auckland to Whangarei, Dunedin, Nelson, and hired out overseas. It could be built anywhere, and if necesaary flogged off afterwards.

Worst case scenario, it could be 'scuttled' in a harbour somewhere

lol awesome idea!

i was always sceptical about them finalising plans in time to complete construction after all the fluffing around they were doing, i really dont see how they intend to get resource consent and permits etc lol

is it possible that this (and the fireworks ban threat) was an attempt to distract us from the corrupt theft of taxpayer money the labour party are getting away with?
