710791 2008-10-09 04:34:00 It is-you'll need to take the PC drive out though Blam (54)
710792 2008-10-09 06:15:00 Hi, I regularly backup my entire C: drive, usually before installing any new software in case things go bad! I use Seagate Disc Wizard (which is a version of Acronis). My 30 gig backup image takes 9 minutes. If a restore is needed it takes about the same time.

710793 2008-10-09 06:29:00 I have used Acronis 11 with great success did my step sons laptop old HDD was 80Gb cloned to a new 120Gb took about 1 1/2 hours. But I did not run the software in Windows I made an acronis boot disk and ran it live from the CD as it was quicker that way and used less resources. I guess a tech might possibly charge somewhere around $120 for 2 hours probably I will get told they charge more so it is only a guess and not gospel gary67 (56)
710794 2008-10-09 09:05:00 Ok, thanks
Do you think it'll be better to run the HDD cloning program (i will most likely be using HDClone since it has a user manual) in windows or when it autoboots?
I will be using an ext HDD that is connected via usb

710795 2008-10-09 09:14:00 Btw, is it possbile to somehow clone my laptop HDD onto my PC drive
Or can i only clone it to a cd, usb or ext HDD? Some Cloning software will allow you to clone a drive over a LAN to another Partition or storage folder on another PC.

My backup system for 3 PC's does this every night, mind you its actually running through server software designed to do this.
But programs like Acronis True Image, Not free, can make an Image of your drive over a LAN. Depends if you want a working copy of the drive, or simply a compressed backed up image of the drive.

710796 2008-10-09 09:34:00 I see, so is it better to run HDClone program as self boot or in Windows or doesn't it matter? Sylar (953)
