483812 2006-09-11 12:43:00 So what's wrong with old fashioned trade union practices. Better than the dod-eat-dog mentality engendered by those pseudo-socialists in the NZ labour Party in the '80s.
I've stopped shopping at Woolworth's while the lock-out continues.

You people make me laugh. As soon as everything returns to normal you will shop where you want and show that the strike meant didly swat.
As for old fashioned union practices well ____ them as they didn't do anyone any good. My gripe about unions is they always went for a percentage pay rise for all workers which meant that the gap between the higher and lower paid just became greater and greater. Mostly poms who were no bloody use in their own country.

483813 2006-09-11 18:29:00 Don't blame Foodtown. They hire staff at an agreed wage. Some of the staff are persuaded to join a Trade Union. The union says "you are not getting paid enough. Go on strike". So the dumb workers walk out and say "we demand some ridiculous wage increase"
They think it's great fun . Standing on the street waving stupid placards and shouting inane slogans. Putting their stupidity on public display. And not getting paid while they do it.

Their union bosses are quite happy. They get their pay.

Foodtown are still operating as normal.

And the stupid ones? Haven't even the brains to realise that even if they get a pay increase, how long it will be before the increase makes up the pay they have lost while being on strike.

I would suggest that Foodtown are not operating as normal.

I stopped in at a large Foodtown in Auckland yesterday and the place was empty... not just no stock on the shelves, but no customers. The only people to be seen were staff trying to make the shelves look 'full'. This was mid morning when the place would normally be humming.

Well here in Rotorua we don't have a Foodtown. But Woolworths and Countdown are same as normal. Full car parks and pretty full shelves.

Never go to P & S too much trouble getting stuff out to the car. A trolley full of un-bagged groceries. Not worth the effort. Just to save a few cents.

483818 2006-09-11 21:40:00 Why don't those boss's just double the pay of those wonderful workers.

Workers everywhere unite.Let us put these boss type people out of business.
Bring back the the old Telecom and the old railways, who had special shovels made so that 3 of us could lean on them at once.

Ang guess who'd be paying for the increase.
