483700 2006-09-12 06:08:00 Hi,

I am also a student and have jsut bought a Dell Inspiron 6400. I was in the same frame of mind about the quality of Dell first off. However, i had a change mind due to the specs i required and therefore most of the other brands were out of my league price wise. My sister had also bought a Dell laptop at the start of the year and she has had no problems so far.

483701 2006-09-12 06:18:00 I had an NEC a few years ago - it had so many problems Noel Leeming (yes honestly it was them) suggested they give me my money back against a new laptop. I decided on HP - seem very good except no burglar proof ability - I'm on my third one now because of house break ins.
Recently my daughter against my better judgement also bought an NEC - its been a lot of trouble - she still hasn't got the DVD thingi to work.

How much are you spending on your DELL PC? $3000+? (There are some that you get for $1000 but with old tech and spec) I can get cheap brands notebook which good specs [but if I drop it it'll broke] if I want but there is a huge difference in quality(e.g. electric shock from cheap brands, keyboard, too much heat during the summer time and etc., not to mention laptops can cost over $10,000 depend what spec you need.
Here's an example Sony VAIO vs LENOVO IBM ThinkPad T60, which quality is better? I don't really know about Sony products but I know it is a rip off, LENOVO IBM? You pay for the quality of the product. T60 is the best so far. I know the LENOVO took over IBM, which is a Chinese PC maker. I haven't seen anyone posted about LENOVO except IBMs. Can LENOVO product can be trusted? Maybe I should take a look in a real one. One thing I know the LENOVO IBM can be trusted.

Thank you for your time to comment about NEC, Tom. Which help the consumer choose the right product. Looks like I longer required to survey for cheaper Japanese[BUDGET] notebooks.

483704 2006-09-14 04:03:00 ASUS Comments? Do you think ASUS produce too much heat? and can't put on your lap for too long? But it is quite fast. PedalSlammer (8511)

ASUS are easy to get serviced in NZ.

Heat would depend on the model, get a grunty one and it will be warmer than a lower spec model, nothing to do with the brand.

As for putting on your lap or anything that isnt a hard flat surface would not be recomended, get a tray or breadboard.

Fast, yes, probally a combination of quality components and not much ASUS rubbish running in the background.

483706 2006-09-15 01:07:00 Thanks Rob99. Is there any difference in the product with those top giant PC makers? like HP and LENOVO? PedalSlammer (8511)
