484686 2006-11-22 11:30:00 Actually,if this BS carries on much longer the Waterfront Stadium will end up in Sydney,in place of the opera house!.

i agree, not that it would be a bad thing.....

why can't they spend a portion of that 11.5 billion bucks on not tolling new motorways? and they can remove the tolls on that bridge in tauranga and any other toll road while they're at it. once they have sorted out the roading, hospitals, and schooling THEN they can worry about sport. 484688 2006-11-23 02:51:00 If the stupid Jaffas don't accept what's being offered to them, and quickly, Lady Helen is going to say, "Do what you like then, but don't expect any money or help from the Govt."

Then the old grey heads who seem to run rugby in this country can spend the next couple of years squabling among themselves about what to do and how to pay for it. Then come 2011 I'll (if still living) watch the games on TV from Aussie.

Anyway I'd rather watch league.

www.stadiumvote.co.nz appears to be closed. Besides... the apparent results seem to be skewed - I wouldn't give credence to an online poll like that no matter what.

484690 2006-11-23 03:52:00 What makes it skewed?. Utopia (7787)
484691 2006-11-23 04:25:00 It could quite possibly be an accurate representation of internet savvy people who visit forums like this. However, it does not include the 65+ generation who might not have a computer, those that do not regularly use the internet and those that never heard about the poll (the only place I have seen it mentioned is here). maccrazy (6741)

i agree, that poll's results were very far from the other ones they did in auckland, but then again all the non-aucklanders may have voted, not realising how not-exaggerated the claims about traffic and parking are.

484693 2006-11-23 11:09:00 Too much debate - Not enough 'action' .

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tonights TV1 Debate reminded me of the "House Of Lords" . A lot of hot air and bugger all else . :yuck:

From against - Quote: "Were going to have a huge monstrosity on our waterfront that is inward looking" .

#Huh!? . . . Stadiums don't cater to 1 or 2 people . They cater to everyone . Usually 50,000+ . Tell me how you fit 60,000 people into your "dolls house"? . . . . . because that's the size you seem to suggest! . What part of "Many humans enjoying life" do you not understand!?? . Sport is entertainment, and appeals to the senses, which is vital to humans wellbeing .

#What is this BS about stadiums that are inward looking!?? . . . . Show me a stadium that is outward looking?? . Show me one that has stands that are transparent!?? . Could you imagine . . . . "100 patrons arrested for looking up womans skirt" . . . . . are you even living on this planet?,or are you just visiting us from Venus where you belong!? .

From Against - Quote: The WFS is just going to remain empty 95% of the time and it's not going to sit there glowing like it does in the architects pictures .

#My god!! . Where do I start!! . All stadiums remain empty most of the time . That is the nature of the "beast" . What do you want!? . . . . . The All Blacks playing 84 test matches per year from the WFS!? . The key to good commercial practice is to hold a variety of other events that capture 'human interest' . There's Concerts,Trade fairs,Military events,Big Boys Toys,Cricket, pageants, fireworks displays, school sports events . . . . . . . . . I'll even ask the local *jester* to put on a comical show just for you,if that makes you happy!? . Of course it's not going to glow 24/7 . . . that costs $$$$$ . For all public events it will be illuminated in a variety of colors [red-blue-green] . . . I'll even sprinkle glitter onto the exterior surface if that "spins your wheel"!?? *** . . . . . . sheesh! . :groan:

Further to the above .

All Blacks sell out Cardiff stadium in three minutes

7 . 00pm Thursday November 24, 2006
By Daniel Gilhooly of NZPA

The All Blacks draw card appeal is so high that extra tickets for this weekend's test against Wales sold out in three minutes .

Stadium officials installed hundreds of extra seats to cope with the demand for Saturday's match where Wales will be looking for their first win over the All Blacks, world number ones and 2007 World Cup favorites, for 53 years .

The additional tickets went on sale at Wednesday and had all been sold in three minutes .

Welsh Rugby Union chief executive Roger Lewis said: "The atmosphere at the stadium with a crowd this size is going to be electric . "

So go jump in the lake as far as the stadium won't be popular .

#I totally agree with Phil Gifford . Lets just get on with building the "Bloody thing"[WFS] . . . . . . cause if we don't,were gunna look like real dicks!! .

#I also give credence to Greg McKeown whom showed perspicacity with regards to POAL vs WFS . The two can work in unison . It takes vision and understanding that business vs pleasure can and does work hand in hand . Humans control both business models . 'Kiwi's can do anything' .

#Trevor Mallard deserves a "big up" for the Patience he has displayed during this whole saga . One which looks more and more like a play-school fight over sandpit territory! .

And now that the Auckland City Council has voted YES for the WFS! . Lets get on with it! . Because in Asia . . this BS just doesn't happen . The Governments there just "do it" with-out public consultation . Beijing Olympic Stadium & Thai National Stadium . . to name a few .

Move the drongos aside, and let's plan for the future!

484694 2006-11-23 11:27:00 must i point out this isn't wales, and the water front IS A BAD PLACE for the stadium for the citizens who have to live/work with all the extra traffic....

i honestly think it should be down to a vote made within the auckland, made by people who actually live/work there.

now there is no reason why we must build a new stadium rather than upgrade an existing one, and to top it off how many reasons are there to put it on the waterfront? about 2 - it is good for the cafe's/hotels, and another reason which i am sure exists but do not yet know of

honestly, just look in the papers, even in this thread; the cons greatly outweigh the pros - sure we can have a 'national stadium', but not on the waterfront

484695 2006-11-23 22:09:00 It is a waste of space putting the stadium on the waterfront. It will not be used 365 days a year. People say let's use it for concerts. How often do we get a major touring act down here that would fill up to 60,000 seats. Most acts want smaller indoor venues, we now have the Vector arena for that with 12,000 seats. Oh we could use it for Motor cross displays etc..I don't think the rugby boys would want their turf ripped up. A major concern I have the the waterfront stadium is the safe egress of people in the event of a fire/bomb scare etc. With the waterfront stadium there is only one side facing land which means 60,000 people have to filter through the same exits. A stadium built on land people can exit in four directions to escape. This waterfront stadium has not be thought through ..There will be delays just look at wembley stadium and even the Vector arena in Auckland. Just my thoughts wmoore (6009)
