484616 2006-11-13 10:07:00 Anyway the way the Jaffas are argueing up there they well lose the stadium to CHCH like they lost the V8 Super Cars to Hamilton and it well serve them right.

Trevor :)

The final has to be hosted in Auckland, as that is not negotiable by the world cup owners. It is either in Auckland, or they will take the cup away...again. They also only need to have a 50000 seat stadium for the final.

Auckland's "rush hour" traffic starts before 3pm and the motorways can become gridlocked at any time of the day or night. The only time they are nearly bearable is the school holidays - and some prize idiot wanted to put a MOTOR RACE of all things at one of the most conjested points! Hamilton can have it - maybe they have roads that can cope with it.

484618 2006-11-13 10:43:00 First Britomart, now a stadium. Has everyone forgotten that Auckland was built on a volcanic area? The experts were saying a few years back that the next volcano is due anytime from now to 300 years away and will probably appear in the sea off Birkenhead. There has to be a better place to put it.
Let Wellington have the eruption then :D :D

484619 2006-11-13 20:41:00 What pisses me off is also the sport radio talk hosts supporting the party line, as soon as Mallard said he was only considering two options then thats all they would talk about. The surveys run by the Herald and radio sport only give people two choices, lets find out what people really want and let them choose from all options, hell we may even break out in democracy. gommerkrinkle (11137)

I thought it was 2:30 to 6:30pm? Evidenced by the lack of customers in our store on the weekdays ...

Only on a good day. Other days its longer. Some days I've been stuck in traffic at midday and others at 7pm.

One Friday I had to go to the airport. 1 hour there and 2 hours back. It should take 40 minutes in reasonable traffic.

The only decent entertainment on the motorways is to leave a large gap in front of you and watch the cars coming and going in it.

A stadium is supposed to HELP Auckland???? The Government won't stump up with funds to solve Auckland traffic woes but are quite prepared to fully fund a white elephant stuffing up the harbour and making the traffic situation worse.

484622 2006-11-14 02:18:00 Yes of course that may be the voting split for Auckland council, but of course greater Auckland has a number of councils, the North Habour proposal will be i think North Shore council, the Manukau option is of course Manukau Council, it is probably i think a given which way those council members would vote.

This local government structure was imposed by Wellington. There was a great fight against it at the time.

484623 2006-11-14 04:45:00 I actually cant believe there are so many people voting against the proposed waterfront stadium, especially architects.I find their views very short sighted and negative. To me it is a very exiting progressive idea which will give the whole waterfront and CBD including your sports and entertainment a boost.
Can it be built over water and in time? Yes!!
Manmade islands have been built offshore in Dubai with less fuss...many said it could not be done!!
Greece got it right for the olympics..many said it could not be done!!!
This is a radical idea and great things usually come from radical ideas!!!
New Zealand has the best Rugby team in the world and i think being leaders in your feild you deserve a stadium of this nature.

Go for it New Zealand...The world is watching!!!

You should probably get your facts right.

None has said that is definately can be done, and on time, just 'probably' and only if work starts immediately. Do you have a source that says it can definately be done. They won't even know if it can be done for at least a year when they carry out site testing.

This is not Dubai, and they don't plan on making an island or reclaiming land, which is cheaper but takes longer. WHat they are planning on building, is a substructure over the water on piles, which is very different and costly. They say that just the substructure without the stadium is going to cost the same as the whole cost that it cost to build wellingtons tadium. This potentially could explode into a 1 billion dollar project very easily. The new olympic 90000 seat china olympic stadium is only costing 650 million to build, and actually looks cool, and is designed by decent international architects.

WHen we have a substandard health system, sending patients to australia for treatment, becuase we don't have the resources to deal with them here, do you really think we can afford to spend this sort of money on a Helen Clark monument. This labour government is now just throwing our money around. I do mean OUR money, as it is money that they have over taxed us on.

A Waterfront Stadium, On budget and ready for RWC 2011, YEAH RIGHT!

They aren't even putting a roof over it, which is madness in itself, as Auckland has terrible weather, and being next to the sea...

It's a multi purpose stadium, a roof would ruin it for hot-air balloons and parachutists :D
