I have a server that needs to be protected:
- quadcore Q6600
- 4 HDD in 2 raid-1 arrays
- 500W PSU
- Windows Server 2003 x64

Can you recommend a suitable UPS?

Having never bought one before, are there features such as send a signal to the server to automatically shutdown if the UPS has kicked in?

And if such a feature exists, then software that's Win2k3 x64 compatible?

Budget of $300-400 (or am I dreaming?)

709909 2008-10-06 00:53:00 Hi, yes, usually a com port to trace UPS battery levels and the software can be configured for delay shutdown.

Being a server, you may want to go 1 better than just battery on power failure by getting a full online UPS, which filters the power to stop spikes, brownings etc.

For a 50-60% loading to give about 5-10mins, I would say a least a 1000va would be required, something like this...www.vectek.co.nz

Would you know the price range for that model?
And how it compares to some of the other brand names (Belkin, APC etc)?

709911 2008-10-06 02:43:00 No, you will need to call them, I paid about $1200 for a 2000va! SolMiester (139)
709912 2008-10-06 02:45:00 Bear in mind too, that the battery packs in an UPS need to be replaced every
3 - 4 years.
