711471 2008-10-11 04:16:00 Working on my partner's XP Home(3) PC to try and help her with a freeze/automatic shut down problem that occurred frequently while she was playing Microsoft's installed Solitaire, came up with a VPU error. Internet research seemed to suggest it was ATI driver conflict with latest Microsoft updates.
Tried a number of suggestions including downloading latest drivers, disabling VPU Recovery in the ATI (later reinstated), installing latest Flash but no difference was made.
Decided to Restore to August 30 and needed to disable Norton to do so. It had just expired so replaced it with AVG and Zone Alarm, after disconnecting the DSL-302G (Generation 2) modem, by using magazine CD versions. The Restore apparently worked and she can play Solitaire again but the internet is no longer functioning. Did all the usual modem things (disconnect, turn off etc) quite a few times.
Contacted Xtra's broadband staff in the Philippines (it was raining, if anyone is interested) and spoke to three different staff including a guy who rang me back from Manilla. He was a mechanic who said that from Telecom's end, the modem was working fine and they couldn't do anything more.It was a PC problem for me to solve in Auckland. They had previously had me disable Zone Alarm and enter IP Address, Subnet Match, Default Gateway, Preferred DNS Server and Alternate DNS Server settings to "force" the modem to function.
I get 'Internet Explorer cannot display this webpage" when I try to connect and a wee flash of "dll/dns error" at the bottom of the screen. When I use Diagnose Connectivity, the message says "Windows has detected a problem with winsock provider catalogue.. would you like Windows to reset catalogue to default configurations?" My fervent "Yeses" (three times to date) bring an automatic shutdown and no difference to the problem.
When I check Local Area Connection Status it says "connected 100.0Mbps" but there is no packet usage.
When I try the Repair option in Network Connections it states" Repair Local Area Connections. Windows could not finish repairing the problem because the following action cannot be completed. Failed to query TCP/IP settings of the connection, cannot proceed."
As is obvious, I know very little about Broadband other than following installation instructions. Should I think about re-installing it on her machine or are there settings that just need to be corrected?
Thanks in advance for any help!

711473 2008-10-11 04:56:00 What Service pack is installed? 1, 2, or 3??

Did you install the latest version of ZA. As there's an issue with SP3, if youre using an earlier version of ZA

Cant say I've had any conflicts with the latest ATI drivers and the latest MS updates tho
