711421 2008-10-11 01:46:00 Hi team looking at buying a switch / print server seen this one here (www.ascent.co.nz) and wanted to know if anyone uses something similar.
Moving all 3 comps to another room soon but want to leave the router where it is and just run an ethernet cable from it to the switch so can plug all comps into the switch and have printing without them all having to be on.

Thanks  :help: :thanks

Oh and I don't want not getting wireless before it gets suggested

711423 2008-10-11 03:06:00 Since no one else is talking I'll give you all I know-
My print server is integrated into my router and the process of setting up may have been similar. Basically if you have the printer already installed its as easy as changing the port and adding the print server's IP address.
It should be simplistic to set-up. Have you checked if the printer server supports your printers.

Thanks

711424 2008-10-11 04:00:00 Hi Gary, yep that would do the job just fine.

I have a D-Link wireless printer server/router, that one would be the same thing without the wireless, which is what you want. Linksys is a really good brand too.

It can be a little confusing setting up the printer for the first time on the PCs, but instructions are easily found.

711425 2008-10-11 05:37:00 Thanks I am looking at the switch option as don't want to move the router as it's tucked away nicely in a cupboard gary67 (56)

711427 2008-10-17 04:29:00 Just thought I would update this it arrived this week and I have configured it for 2 computers and my printer and it all seems to be working fine. My printer was not listed on the Linksys website as being compatible but took the chance any way and all good. My printer is a Canon Pixma IP3000 gary67 (56)
