486639 2006-09-22 06:12:00 I have been given feedback from friends who came here from London, I usually visit overseas for a bigger difference.

Recently Wellington got their resource consent passed but they are against further appeals regarding Hilton Hotel. Still recent news, Wellington only got its first 5 star hotel. Its 2006 and Wellington does not have a proper international airport. 2006 and they have (1) 5 star hotel. Yet NZ is seen as an exotic destination for many.

I understand NZ is a not a dense populated country, to me its like NZ does not have the basic backbone. Christchurch as their international airport, not by any means comprehensive as Auckland but at least they can fly to overseas to a handful of destinations without needing to change aircraft in Auckland.

Friends have thought about moving to NZ and one phrase they said was NZ is dependent on personal transportation. I think I read this on a newspape as well and how some pple who work in the automobile industry said because of that attribute that they have a slight advantage at their business. Obviously NZ cannot afford a full blown underground network of trains, they cannot have buses or trains each 15mins. Certainly they can look at monorails or something like the London's DLR (Dockland's light rail) a driverless train, like in the inner cities of the large cities of NZ. Or similarly expand the rail network what it has right now and add ferry lines to the hutt valley than just rely on the very few train stations or the "one" bus route.

I know friends who live near the city, they sorta walk to work for like up to 30mins and if they choose to get the bus they are the lucky bunch b/c they are able to take numerous bus routes. Other people are sorta restricted to one route.

I am not a huge fan of road developments because that is shared with all the other drivers. If it gets blocked up then everyone gets affected, why not avoid the roads and place more emphasise on a different route side stepping the roads altogether.
