485713 2006-09-19 06:00:00 Having this problem for a week now and got an installer coming in this week to check whats wrong. If its to do with something I've done then I am charged for it which I would hate :)

The problem I'm having is the decoder turns on and back off straight away. After a few minutes it turns on works for a little bit then the screen goes black and it restarts and does the same thing again. Today it's taking even longer to get it working.

Is there anything I can do before they come around? Got someone on the roof to check the satellite was secure which it was. Checked the plugs and used different cables just incase. Is there anything else I can try?

485714 2006-09-19 06:49:00 sounds like decoder problem which sky will fix no charge.

only thing i would check is for loose power plugs/dodgy power adaptors etc.

485715 2006-09-19 06:49:00 If the decoder is actually powering on and off, then its almost certainly an internal decoder problem. What are the lights on the decoder doing while this is happening? godfather (25)

What are the lights on the decoder doing while this is happening?

Apon switching it on one of three lights flashes once then the rest do the same. It just continues to do that.

485717 2006-09-19 12:03:00 It sounds like your decoder is dead.

What kind of decoder do you have a pace or motorola or is the new silver small sized pace decoders. I have had seven decoder replacements this year and they have all been brand new.I think sky is just buying cheap junk decoders that have bugger all functions on them cause they dont like people playing round with them.

485718 2006-09-19 21:27:00 Its the Motorola one. The skytv fixer/installer comes around today so yay! trinsic (6945)
485719 2006-09-20 04:25:00 Guy came over and instantly said "I'll get a replacement decoder". 5 minutes later he came back with a Zenith branded one. Also gave me another remote so no more sharing ;D trinsic (6945)

485721 2006-09-20 06:56:00 Probably one he had "in the van" pine-o-cleen (2955)
485722 2006-09-20 06:59:00 they will be the old ones afaik (reconditioned). probably slow as **** to change channels etc. btw in case the installer was the typical moron, make sure the decoder has good amount of ventilation otherwise they tend to cook and die on a regular basis. tweak'e (69)
