486601 2006-09-23 03:23:00 In my area it certainly looks like at least half the homes have Sky dishes, and I'm not in a particularly posh neighbourhood.

Same here, it seems like almost every house next to us have one.

486602 2006-09-23 04:27:00 "Coming soon: BBC iPlayer
In April 2007 the BBC is hoping to launch this new easy-to-use service that will let you access both TV and radio programmes via your computer. The plan is that it will include live streaming of TV and also the chance to catch up with programmes you may have missed for up to seven days after broadcast."

Personally, it won't come too soon for me and I'll dump Sky like a hotcake.

There...... got that off my chest :angry

Bet you won't as it will only be available to UK IP addresses..

486603 2006-09-23 05:53:00 I do notice that people who have Sky seem to live next door to each other. You might get 3 or 4 house's next to each other with it then there well be say 20 house's without it then another group of 3 or 4 with it.

Trevor :)

486604 2006-09-23 06:40:00 just because they have a dish dosn't mean they hav sky. i know people who where geting the free/cheap install for the rugby etc then dropping it when the season etc finished. then uts a cheap hookup for the next year ;)

also how many of those are flats? its often cheaper to get sky than to pay for tv aerials every time you change flat.

486606 2006-09-23 15:19:00 Sorry my memory got it wrong - it's 42%. And it wasn't a survey, it's their actual customer numbers:

"Sky's subscriber base included 492,381 residential digital subscribers (73.8 per cent), 64,927 residential UHF subscribers (9.7 per cent) 97,812 wholesale subscribers (14.7 per cent) and 12,150 (1.8 per cent) commercial and other subscribers.

Sky was now in 42 per cent of New Zealand homes"

In my area it certainly looks like at least half the homes have Sky dishes, and I'm not in a particularly posh neighbourhood.

Personally I couldn't do without my Sky - specially the nature style channels, Food TV and UK TV. But it's important to us for the free-to-air channels because we're in a lousy reception area for a regular aerial.

So why haven't you voted in the poll yourself yet?
It would help get the figures closer to your guesstimate -instead of looking pretty much like mine so far.

486607 2006-09-24 08:13:00 I've periodically had the budget UHF package, due to being a huge fan of one particular show they had... but they jerked around with the screening times, then cut the days it was show, then cut it entirely, only to restart it again some months later... and they bracketted the show with total and absolute garbage.

Much as other repliers have stated - if you could pick and pay for only the channels you want... but otherwise Sky is just a hole to throw money into.

Even though my beloved show is back on, I'm ignoring the wish to get Sky to view it. Too much cr@p, too much cost.

They would get me back if UKTV could be had on its own, but not when it's bundled with all the other detritus.

Sorry mother, I promise to polish my shoes in future.

Why the poll? It's already been announced in the financial press

486610 2006-09-24 11:16:00 Previous owners of my place left such a dish on the roof. Wonder how many nosey folks think I have Sky? Scouse (83)
