2008-10-11 06:41:00 | Hi, My grandparents have trouble using their new laptop and one of the things I was going to help them with was finding their shortcuts to their favorite web pages/Programs. I have provided a badly drawn paint sketch as to what sort of program I require. I have seen this sort of software in internet cafes/kiosks, as a way of saving time and helping people get to the pages they want to view faster. i263.photobucket.com Thanks!

2008-10-11 06:47:00 | I mean like really large icons that take up a large portion of the page. So there would be about six icons on the page. | Drenwick (13216) | |
2008-10-11 07:02:00 | Just make an image, draw as many squares in it, set it as the background and put the icons inside the square. Or make a html file and set it as the background.

2008-10-11 07:11:00 | Are they using XP or Vista. Can't be done on Vista :). You may run into problems when clicking the icons because the "What do you want to do with this file" dialog might appear - I haven't made hyperlinks on an html file set as the desktop before so I don't know.

2008-10-11 07:26:00 | Try this. Might not be what you want... (This is in XP) Right Click the desktop. Select Properties Click on Appearance at the top and then Effects on the lower right. Make sure "Use Large Icons" is ticked. Click OK

2008-10-11 07:31:00 | If it were just web pages you wanted to give large links to try IE7Pro (www.ie7pro.com) - it can give you a main home page where you can set any favorites/sites you have, you can set several numbers, the settings in rows up to 6 x 4 meaning 24 links or as little as 1 and every thing in between. Wont do links to programs on the PC though. Edited: If only wanting browser fav's here - example (www.imagef1.net.nz) IE7Pro home page set to display only 6 links.

2008-10-11 07:46:00 | Hmm, I have seen a program which does what I am thinking of in Australia at an internet cafe. Oh well, thanks for all your help. If you do find such a program, please post it here. | Drenwick (13216) | |
