2006-09-19 00:00:00 | as u know xtra is going to have their 7.6Mbps plans next month. So will the just keep the same prices etc and upgrade users automatically? I'm on the $59.95 10GB plan,so does this mean they'll just upgrade me to 7.6MBps and keep the same price? Or will every xtra customer have to transfer to the new plans? | lance4k (4644) | |
2006-09-19 00:32:00 | Dream on...... PPl on 3.5 mbps dont even get 2mbps sometime, i dont know how to telecom is going to manage 7.6mbps. Now. When 3.5 mbps was released, customers got a letter saying that they are going to be transfered so most probably similar thing will happen.

2006-09-19 01:28:00 | As gum digger said, some people who are on the 3.5Mb can't even get that, I know of pctek who can only get 0.8Mb I think it was max, I am one of the lucky ones who can get 2Mb, but this is still nowhere near the 3.5Mb said by Telecom... all of the problems are because the Telecom network can not handle the extra increase in load even at the 3.5Mb the load is so large that most people are unable to get the full speed and what also reduces the speeds for use is the ratio of users per line/connection, at the moment it is at about 150 users to the one connection I think it was... and that is 150 people sharing a 3.5Mb connection... What about 7.6Mb? they will just increase the ratio of users per connection and speeds will be even lower, and also these... low... caps, place overseas have got unlimmited caps while we are stuck with 10Gb... and to think NZ was one of the first countrys to get BB when it was first introduced and now look at us, other places like Sweden has 100Mb (Ithink I read somewhere...) Not to mention the minute upload speeds, again Sweden has 10Mb upload while we are stuck on 128Kb unless we pay a large amount more money... :annoyed: So unless Telecom is going to spend millions (billions?) upgrading the network then we will NOT see these sort of speeds for a long time In a nut shell Telecom need to get over their selves and lower prices and offer decent speeds and data allowances... to keep us up with the play on BB as we were when it came out... Well that is the end of my rant... I must go and rest my hands :p

2006-09-19 01:33:00 | 7.6? Why not 12? 20? They can advertise what ever numbers they want, but in reality, you won't even get 1/2 of that speed. Heck, I'm on 3.5 plan and I'll be lucky to get 1.2 ! Before they switch me from 2Mb plan, I was able to get around 1.5 ~ | SKT174 (1319) | |
2006-09-19 01:51:00 | I think the idea of releasing the new plans is that they will have upgraded their equipment to some extent, meaning that some of the exchanges may no longer be overloaded or whatever, otherwise what would be the point in releasing new plans if the speeds wont increase? | Fidelius (10676) | |
2006-09-19 02:10:00 | I think the idea of releasing the new plans is that they will have upgraded their equipment to some extent, meaning that some of the exchanges may no longer be overloaded or whatever, otherwise what would be the point in releasing new plans if the speeds wont increase? so Xtra can say "sorry you aren't getting what you paid for, we aren't limiting your speed.

2006-09-19 02:11:00 | Not to mention the minute upload speeds...while we are stuck on 128Kb unless we pay a large amount more money...Not true - according to the telecom tech I talked to this morning, the upload is also being uncapped, and he assured me that those users currently on 128k will also get the benefit of this; it's not just limited to those who pay for the 512k plans. | Erayd (23) | |
2006-09-19 02:25:00 | 7 . 6? Why not 12? 20? I think ( I read this some where I cant remember if it was local or overseas) that the ADSL we have can only get up to 7+Mb & that depends on the copper line . If we want 12, 20 Mb then we need ADSL 2 / +2

2006-09-19 02:30:00 | as u know xtra is going to have their 7.6Mbps plans next month. So will the just keep the same prices etc and upgrade users automatically? I reckoned we just have to wait & see what happens next month & to see if telecom / xtra will do it. I for one don’t think that telecom / xtra network will cope & it will crash. Unless telecom has been doing a LOT of work on there network / exchanges.

2006-09-19 03:44:00 | Do not get to excited You CANNOT reach speeds downstream any faster than around 4Mb with only 128K up, it is a technical impossibility. Each packet needs to be confirmed and 128K cannot confirm up much faster than for 4MB. These 7.6Mb\128K plans will be nothing more than a marketing tool. If you are on the 3.5Mb/128K plan now, you will not see any tangible improvement in speed when it goes "so called unconstrained". People on the 3.5Mb/512K plans may well see a good improvement as both up and down will be unconstrained i beleive. Last all providers will be getting "faster snigger" speeds, so maybe get a better deal from another ISP as Xtra are a rip off (compare the prices yourself).
