The last week I was stuck in Masterton (Bye Bye Farmers building) arrived home Friday evening, Left for Wellington Saturday morning, arrived home at 3pm this arvo. And back off to Masterton at 6am tommorow morning..... So I wont even be back in Wanganui till some time later this week. |

Maybe we can answer some questions anyway, I doubt you'd find a OSH person on here - looking at computer screens is probably on their banned list. |

| 485293 | 2006-09-21 09:53:00 | Well, Not really aiming at actual OSH employess, there are only a tiny number of them out in the feild visiting jobsites, Infact last time I looked there was only 1 for the entire lower north island. My question (as yet unasked) was for someone who had been trained for and now performed the role of Health and safety advisor in their workplace, a quick look on seek.co.nz shows quite a few well paid positions in sweet spots around the country, and I know there are hundreds of people fullfilling this role around the country as it has become a requirment in every industry over the last decade. Currently as part of my role I do hazard idenfication, On-site training, Site inductions, and make sure everything done by my crew complies with OSH regulations (well, The ones I agree with anyway.....Muhahahahaha) Anyhow, The issue is that at some stage in the future I want to jump ship with not only all my experience but also the qualifications to get a cushy number in a prime location, Hence the interest in actual training and qualifications in regard to H&S. I have contacted a training outfit and as expected they will only sign me up on their bottem level (which is actually a step below any recorgnised duties and miles below what I already do) and then what me to go through every level one at a time meaning a couple of years wasted before I even get near what my current duties entail. They finish at level 4. Yet looking on the Open University website (I think thats what it was) they offer Level 5 and Level 6 and the course requirments state that it is open to everyone. Which begs a couple of obvious questions. Anyhow, apart from that I wanted to know if these qualifications are actually relivent to the positions available (obviously backed up with experience and super-cunningness) Oh yeah, these are the quals. www.nzqa.govt.nz |

| 485295 | 2006-09-21 10:15:00 | Sure have, Have been looking into it for a couple of months and spent many many hours with Google, Over all I would rate the actuall OSH site as near worthless, Gave me no real information nor even an indication of what my next step should be. Anyhow, I was hoping to get some real world info from someonewho has been down the required path. Oh yeah, Visit to PJ's pencilled in for Saturday morning.........Come hell or high water. |
