| 712146 | 2008-10-14 06:16:00 | :waughh: :waughh: :waughh: I'm planning to upgrade to a 4850 from my 8800GT, but after looking at many reviews, I'm getting mixed results - some reviews found the 4850 loses to 8800GT in Crysis, and some reviews found it only gave 2-10 FPS gain, mostly minimal . Is it due to the early driver problem, and now the latest Catalyst drivers has let the 4850 to shine or is it not worth upgrading from 8800GT? I mainly game on 1280x1024, and these holidays am planning to play Crysis Warhead, S . T . A . L . K . E . R . Clear Sky, Spore and FEAR and its expansion packs . I have no doubt I can play FEAR on max at the above resolution, but I'm not sure about the other 3 games . Does anybody here used to have 8800GT, and now a 4850, and can point out the latter's merits over the former? |

| 712147 | 2008-10-14 06:32:00 | Oh, and when is the second generation 4850s coming out? | qazwsxokmijn (102) | ||
| 712148 | 2008-10-14 08:30:00 | Mate, @ 12x10 the 88GT is plenty, I use 96Gt @ 16x10 and that is 10% weaker than the 88GT | SolMiester (139) | ||
| 712149 | 2008-10-14 08:54:00 | I'd be happy with an 8800 if I were you. It's still the best GFX card ever released, on a price/performace basis IMO. It's always embarrassing when new gen stuff fails to kill last gen stuff *cough*vista*cough*. I'm fairly sure the 2nd gen is out now. Significantly better thermal solutions, and slightly better RAM and GPU clocks. |

| 712150 | 2008-10-14 09:16:00 | Yah, I'm still happy with my 8800GT, but usually each year I tend to upgrade a thing or two.....I just bought a Gigabyte Aurora 570 case and want to upgrade my video card. But it looks like I'd be keeping the 8800 for a while yet then. | qazwsxokmijn (102) | ||
| 712151 | 2008-10-14 18:55:00 | Im in the same boat, think im just addicted to buying stuff that i dont need 8800gt good for now at low res, but we will have to wait and see how farcry 2 plays on it. Ill start saving now!!! |

| 712153 | 2008-10-14 19:54:00 | I'm planning to upgrade to a 4850 from my 8800GT, is it not worth upgrading from 8800GT? I mainly game on 1280x1024, and these holidays am planning to play Crysis Warhead, S . T . A . L . K . E . R . Clear Sky, Spore and FEAR and its expansion packs . Well . I went from 2 8800GTS's (G92) in SLI to a 4870x2 and I dithered about doing it for quiet a while . Best thing I've bought! However going from a 8800GT to a 4850 isn't a large jump . Of the games you mention the only one you'd likely have preformance issues with would be Crysis . But not the rest . So is it worth it? I personally wouldn't . Why not wait longer and then go to whatever the next card out is? You don't have to upgrade every generation . My son went from a Ti4200 to a 8800GTS (G80) and loved the massive improvement he got, he won't change until he absolutely has to . Friend of mine went from a 7800GT to one of my 8800GTSs and wasn't too thrilled with the difference . |

I guess I won't be upgrading then. Sheesh, when I read the title of your thread, I thought you were having woman troubles!! :p Pun intended. :D |

PCT, dont you have a 19" screen?, what res are you running?, can you please advise the % increase you got from a CPU bottlenecked SLI config to a X2 CPU bottleneck, I'm curious to know if you noticed any improvement at all? |
