711655 2008-10-12 01:43:00 Lately my Presario V3209AU has been screwing up a lot. When I turn it on I have to restart it a few times for the screen to actualy work and the wireless network card doen't seem to be picked up anymore. These problems just happened all of a sudden 18 months since I bought the notebook.

I thought these might be driver problems so I went to the HP website but then I found this (h10025.www1.hp.com).

I have the one of the affected product lines and the symptoms match up so it sounds like I am entitled to get it fixed for free. Their phonelines are not open today so I couldn't ring them.

What would they do to fix thix problem? do they replace the mobo because from what they said it sounds as if the fan doesnt work that well and some of the solder connections have broken.

Has anyone had this problem before and do HP actually fix it and not make up a crazy excuse like some companies do for cellphones and water damage.

711656 2008-10-12 05:07:00 LOL,"After HP receives your notebook PC, HP will use its best efforts to repair your notebook within 10 business days."

10 days to flash a BIOS>

You could do it yourself in about 5 minutes.

All they are doing is updating the BIOS. They even give you instructions on how to do it on that page.

711657 2008-10-12 05:39:00 I already have flashed the bios myself (even though later I read that it said not to if you are experiencing problems) and that didn't fix the problems it is still as screwed as ever. I think some hardware damage due to extreme overheating (as the problem with a lot of presarios they get really really hot) has occured but i'll ring HP tomorrow and see what the deal is. sam2727 (12084)

They instruct people how to do the BIOS update. If that doesn't help then it can be sent to them for repair. Read what they say.

711660 2008-10-21 07:35:00 I got my laptop back today and they replaced the motherboard and even though it was over 6 months out of normal warranty, HP covered it for free which was pretty sweet. sam2727 (12084)
