| 487947 | 2006-09-28 23:52:00 | The recently introduced Go Large is marketed as having no monthly data cap, but doubts have risen as to how correct this is. An industry source says that far from being unlimited, Telecom has in fact a 20GB per month cap on the Go Large plan. Furthermore, the source says, peer-to-peer traffic is rate limited at all times. Telecom markets the full-rate/128kbit/s plan as having no monthly limit, but says a Fair Use Policy applies to it. This means traffic management will apply to the plan during the peak time of four in the afternoon to midnight, says Lenska Papich, Xtra spokeswoman. See Full Story computerworld.co.nz |

| 487948 | 2006-09-29 03:04:00 | Sounds a bit like their "Faster and cheaper broadband" statements earlier this year. They then turned around and said that they really ment "Faster or cheaper broadband" | paulw (1826) | ||
| 487949 | 2006-09-29 04:11:00 | I noticed today in the PC World inside back cover.. WorldNet's MegaPass plans... Extreme Unlimited Personal... with a 14GB Usage limit :waughh: | Myth (110) | ||
| 487950 | 2006-09-29 05:00:00 | It is actually a daily cap of 700MB which equates to the 20GB per month in the article. I am sorry "P2P guys" if you use a lot of data and slow down the rest of us then you have to pay in some way. The most I have used in one day recently is about 300MB (according to daily usage logs), so the Go Large will work for me, and i don't do P2P. It will be good to see the cheap P2P users disadvantaged. I support Telecom's plans, to improve the internet experience for the rest of us. |

| 487951 | 2006-09-29 05:13:00 | really it shouldn't matter how you use the bandwidth you pay for. you pay for it, you use it how you like. the problem is ISP's like to sell what they can't afford. unlimited is stupid because they know people will download more data than what the ISP can afford to buy. however ISP's continue to sell "unlimited" as a marketing gimmick. they sell "high speed" broadband that will NEVER achieve the speeds that they advertise, now they are selling "unlimited" that isn't. WHY are they allowed to get away with false advertising all the time? |

I am sorry "P2P guys" if you use a lot of data and slow down the rest of us then you have to pay in some way . It is not a daily cap at all, you just can't use more than 700MB between 4pm and midnight . You have a 20GB monthly "limit" during those hours only . From midnight to 4pm you have unlimted data . I'm all for gutting the P2P guys as well, judging by the comments made by serial downloaders on PF1 and other forums, they download hundreds of GB and most of it is never touched again . Those who do use it may possibly be circulating pirated music, films or software, though I would hope that nobody on PF1 fits that category . The selfish few spoil things for the many . Cheers Billy 8-{) Friday rant over :D |

| 487955 | 2006-10-02 01:02:00 | Well... I have used 3.5Gb in one day - Windows Vista Beta 2 (legit). I was happy on Xtra Jetstream Swift (10Gb cap, 2Mbps down, 192Kbps up), because it fits everything i do - gaming, legitimate P2P and BitTorrent downloads and other random non-standard internet things. In fact, only a very small percentage of my internet usage is what most people would call "normal", and all this will be throttled back (by the sounds of it). It sounds to me that anything that does not run through ports 80 (standard WWW) and email ports (i can never remember them) will be agonizingly slow between 4pm and midnight. This does include my gaming, my P2P, my BitTorrent... Being a student, I can't afford the Pro plans (79.95/month for 15 GB cap, Max up/down), and will almost be continually be in the "Fair Use Pool"; also, being a student means that I cant afford to be up in the early hours of the morning to be starting downloads and using my PC - i need my sleep, or I will fail. Is there anything i can do? |

This does include my gaming, my P2P, my BitTorrent... I would have thought they would also count gaming as well, since MS is with Xtra. |
