Ihug are offering a landline for $45 per month rental.
Message service + $7 (same as Telecom)
Dunno what fax and call waiting etc costs are, didn't ask.
Then there is the call charges.

For $15 a month you get unlimited off peak national calls.
For $20 a month you get unlimited anytime national calls.
For $40 a month you get unlimited anytime national calls plus international calls to 5 countries.

You can keep your existing phone number.
If you have broadband with Xtra you have to change to Ihugs broadband.
If you have broadband with anyone else you don't have to.

Call time capped at 1 hour.

Landline to mobile is 55c per minute anytime.

So for me this would work out at $72 a month.
Versus $200 give or take a bit per month with Telecom.

I rang Telecom and asked them what their new plans will be and the guy (who was quite nice actually) said they don't have any yet, probably will but who knows when.
He agreed that it made sense for me to change. :D

487742 2006-09-27 22:41:00 As far as I can see, the only benefit of Ihug's plan is if you make heaps of national toll calls. For me, I would only start saving money if I made more than 11 toll calls a month. The line charge ($45) looks almost identical to Telecom's.

Landline to mobile - I pay $0.39/min with WxC, but then I hardly ever call a mobile.

It'll be good for heavy toll users.

487743 2006-09-28 01:24:00 I would probably not get enough benefit from it, what I really need is cheap landline to mobile calls, as a lot of my customers only give me cellphone numbers and I end up spending about $40-70 a month just on that. george12 (7)
487744 2006-09-28 01:30:00 It is a good start

But still too expensive for me.

I wouldn't pay $70+ $80 for broadband.Costs too much
