Altar boys reply "Two mars bars"

487103 2006-09-26 07:47:00 Bruce...I am at a loss here...as a Yank,

what is a PC?

"What Is Political Correctness?
Political Correctness (PC) is the communal tyranny that erupted in the 1980s. It was a spontaneous declaration that particular ideas, expressions and behaviour, which were then legal, should be forbidden by law, and people who transgressed should be punished. (see Newspeak) It started with a few voices but grew in popularity until it became unwritten and written law within the community. With those who were publicly declared as being not politically correct becoming the object of persecution by the mob, if not prosecution by the state."

George Orwells 1984.

You WILL NOTt think these nasty jokes either.....:annoyed:

As a gay Christian ex altar boy with a penchant for chocolate I am offended on so many levels by that joke (however it seems that if I had told it, it would be seen as self depreciating humour and I could probably get a pay-out from the government)

487105 2006-09-26 15:34:00 OK . . . PC understood now, so my comment:

I suppose that there has been a new "awareness" of insults either racial or political . This may or may not be a good thing .

I think we are all too sensitive to what we perceive as insults or slanderous statements . . . and that is all well and good .

Jokes are always at the expense of someone else . . . few jokes are told about non-sentient objects (things that cannot use a language for communication) .

It's kinda like using foul language . . . it's a lack of command of language that makes a person so inclined to use foul-isms to express disgust, hate or frustration .

Personally, I try to not impute motives or intelligence (or lack thereof) into races of people . We all have "issues" with people around us and I am sure there are jokes about we who consider ourselves above the common fray .

Humor, however, is the utmost form of protest . . . perhaps we are trying to commiserate with those of whom we make jokes . That is a generalization too . . . I might be attempting to make good out of something that is hurtful .

The damage is that we make sweeping statements about a group of people using faulty logic, ie, "The robber/murderer was black, therefor all blacks are robbers/murderers" . . . not so . The limits we place on people with these generalizations are wrong .

NEW YORK -- A public school teacher was arrested today at John F . Kennedy International Airport as he attempted to board a flight while in possession of a ruler, a protractor, a set square, a slide rule and a calculator .

At a morning press conference, Attorney General Alberto Gonzales said he believes the man is a member of the notorious Al-gebra movement .

He did not identify the man, who has been charged by the FBI with carrying weapons of math instruction .

"Al-gebra is a problem for us," Gonzales said . "They desire solutions by means and extremes, and sometimes go off on tangents in search of absolute values .

They use secret code names like 'x' and 'y' and refer to themselves as 'unknowns', but we have determined they belong to a common denominator of the axis of medieval with coordinates in every country .

As the Greek philanderer Isosceles used to say, 'There are 3 sides to every triangle' . "

When asked to comment on the arrest, President Bush said,

"If God had wanted us to have better weapons of math instruction . He would have given us more fingers and toes . "

White House aides told reporters they could not recall a more intelligent or profound statement by the president .

No, not a typo . . .

Self depreciating: telling jokes about one self only has the effect of lessoning one's own self worth .

Or maybe it was too esoteric for some on here? :illogical

Jeez, I think it's time I quit this place . . . now where's the real world gone

PS, please also excuse my inadequate grammar as I am not particularly intelligent .
