712032 2008-10-14 00:23:00 I use a freeware program called Karen's Replicator from www.karenware.com which I use in XP. Am not sure how it runs in Vista though.

It is so much better than SyncToy.

712033 2008-10-14 03:05:00 I've always used the freeware version of Syncback. Found it very reliable and better than SyncToy. There is always a copy of it on the PCWorld DVD. AvonBill (11358)
712034 2008-10-14 06:42:00 I use synctoy but just call it manually and I find it great for what I am doing very easy to configure and use gary67 (56)
712035 2008-10-14 16:28:00 I created this batch file after looking at a similar issue in another thread to copy files from a directory to a drive where I wanted to retain multiple copies - hence I create the directory with a date based sub-directory

U : \ = the USB drive letter

@echo off
color 12

set folder=%date : ~10,4%_%date : ~4,2%_%date : ~7,2%
: Sets the folder variable, uses US date format, MM/DD/YYYY
IF EXIST DirectoryName GOTO End
mkdir u : \Backups\%folder%
echo Made dated folder, date used is %folder%

cd c : \<directorytocopy>\

xcopy /s *.* u : \Backups\%folder%\

echo Files have been copied
pause
GOTO Finish

: End
Echo The Directory already exists !!!!!!!!

: Finish

There is a bug in xcopy that it will simply stop the copy part way through
under certain circumstances (see my earlier post for a reference). Ive seem this happen a few times on different PC's.

With XP, xxcopy is a better alternative (not for Vista unfortunately)
