712063 2008-10-13 23:47:00 Just a curious question...

My mate has set up a small M$ Exchange server for emails for his family and a few friends. Works fine(ish) i.e. I can send and receive emails, share calendars, etc. I can also use Outlook Web Access fine (from anywhere).

HOWEVER... M$ Outlook does not like me....
It frequently disconnects from his server, often takes ages (sometimes 3-5min) to start up outlook and to send receive mail.

And apparently (according to my mate who set up the server) this problem only occurs at my house.

I have no problems with the Internet, RDP'ing or anything including using OWA from my house. The problem only occurs with M$ Outlook at my house (including different computers in my house).

Any clues guys?

712064 2008-10-13 23:52:00 Remove the Exchange mailbox from Outlook and then re-add it... see if that helps.

How is the Exchange Server setup? You using a domain etc?

712065 2008-10-14 00:18:00 Are you saying the server is elsewhere?.....try using Cache exchange mode, it places a copy mailbox on your pc and sync's to the server. SolMiester (139)
712066 2008-10-14 00:18:00 Are you using a wireless connection?? sroby (11519)
712067 2008-10-14 00:45:00 The server is located at my mates house.
It is running off a normal pc and a normal Internet connection.
I use cable but my dads on wireless.

712068 2008-10-14 01:27:00 So, the exchange server is hosting a pop account for you? SolMiester (139)
712069 2008-10-14 01:32:00 It is a push not a pop GeneralKanos (13592)
712070 2008-10-14 01:38:00 How are you connecting, is the exchange server on a DMZ, or are you using a VPN tunnel?.....you should use cached mode anyway on a slow link! SolMiester (139)
712071 2008-10-14 02:42:00 I asked my mate the question ^^ and he replied "connecting via outlook anywhere or otherwise known as RPC over https"

He also said its not DMZ or VPN and is behind a firewall.

712072 2008-10-14 03:17:00 Okay, have you check the cached mode yet?

Here's abit of info for ya....

Check this bit

You must use Outlook 2003 running on Windows XP Service Pack 1 to connect using the RPC over HTTP protocol. In addition, you must install the hotfix mentioned in Microsoft KB article Outlook 11 Performs Slowly or Stops Responding When Connected to Exchange Server 2003 Through HTTP. Download and install the hotfix before configuring a profile that allows the user to connect to the Exchange Server.
