2008-10-19 18:36:00 | Great question Ive got the same card as you now and would like to upgrade Sofar the 4870 specs look faster and better if your thinking of memory/clock speeds and number of stream processors (computing power). I believe shader intensive games are running better with the 4870 but crysis like games are still running faster or about the same speed as the 260, not sure if thats because of insufficent drivers or if some games a just written or coded with nvidia in mind. As for far cry 2 I believe they are utalising the new dunia engine running in the new 260/280 cards. Big decision (The asus4870 looks cool with that hot chick on the card cover)

2008-10-19 19:15:00 | I think the reason the 260's run faster is because games like Crysis run on more RAM. I'd go for the 4870, but I'd see if I could find a 1Gig version if it's not too expensive.

2008-10-19 19:24:00 | Is that the 216 core 260 or just the original?.....I believe the 260 edges the 4870, especially the 512mb version..... | SolMiester (139) | |
2008-10-19 19:37:00 | I was thinking of the 1gb 4870 But i didnt realize there was a new 260 other than the original 192 stream processors and 896mb memory Have the 4870 heat issues been fixed in the new 1gb version?

2008-10-19 21:17:00 | I think the latest ATI drivers allow manual setting of fan speed which will bring the temps down... | SolMiester (139) | |
2008-10-19 21:28:00 | Also, most of the newer models have improved thermo designs from the ATI model. A lot of them have higher clocks, lower temps, and lower power consumption. | Thebananamonkey (7741) | |
2008-10-20 02:45:00 | im not sure if its the new gtx or not, most online stores dont seem to put specs up on graphics | hueybot3000 (3646) | |
2008-10-20 06:10:00 | i was looking at some Far Cry 2 Forums Take a look at the benchmarks: www.pcgameshardware.com Keep in mind that they're very high settings at 4xFSAA, 4xAF AND 8xFSAA, 16xAF As for far cry 2 I believe they are utalising the new dunia engine running in the new 260/280 cards. FAR CRY 2 has dumped Nvidia in the area of optimisation and gone with (AMD)ATI

2008-10-20 20:36:00 | LOL, they havent dumped anyone.....LOL, do you think they would leave millions of NV owners out of the picture?....No....They have added DX10.1, which NV doesnt have, however whether that includes a performance advantage or not is yet to be seen. What they have done however, is make the game multi thread aware, so if you have a Quad core, you will be at an advantage over the dualies, even if they are clocked higher....yay..... EDit - need to update.......The game is NOT DX10.1......... www.pcgameshardware.com
