712389 2008-10-15 04:03:00 One of our employees who works from home uses a DSL-302g router.

On Sunday the status and ADSL lights went out and the router stopped working. She rang her ISP and had to plug and unplug cables, reboot, change cables, etc. and eventually got it going again. All was well Monday, and then at about 4pm Tuesday the same thing happened. She repeated all the unplugging etc. to no avail. She rang the ISP again and was told that she needed new filters. About 7pm it started working again of its own accord.

She doesn't want to have to take a 40 minute drive and spend money on new filters if there's a chance that that's not the problem. However, she did notice today that the router dropped out when someone rang her.

Has the ISP got it right?

Thanks

:)

unplug everything in the house, and try a different filter on the 302, see if that fixes it.

712391 2008-10-15 04:19:00 Leave the filter out all together to the router - the filters are mainly for the phones so they cut out any high frequency Crackle of the ADSL . (thats if there is any) if no crackle then you dont need the filters .

Fixed many a connection that way and it works fine .

712392 2008-10-15 05:16:00 I would be inclined to see how hot its getting, its coming up to that time of year again and Ive had about 4-5 of those el-cheapo ones fail on me due to overheating...

Get them to see how warm it feels when the connection drops, you may be surprised :)
