488271 2006-10-02 07:40:00 I thought mellow yellow was a sickly sweet pineapple'ish flavoured drink? Greg (193)
488272 2006-10-02 08:17:00 what year did it come out?

I think they stopped making it in the late 80's. I remember the TV ads

Suckers.

I dont think so... Lift has a more intense flavour, whereas Mello Yello seems to be more... shall we say 'Mellow'

488275 2006-10-03 07:27:00 Ahhhh Donovan, now there was a fine hippie folk singer. Mellow Yello is resounding in my virtual ear at this moment.

And not to do a hijack but Donovan did another delightful song called the "Intergalactic Laxative" www.sing365.com
from the excellent Cosmic Wheels album.

488276 2006-10-03 12:22:00 Well, why not do a hijack, Winston?
Donovan's much more interesting than a sugary fizzy drink that wasn't ever that big in NZ anyway. We've heard more than enough about it by now....

I must have missed those lyrics in the decade they appeared ( Yes, I'm sure I'd have remembered)
And they're certainly an interesting contrast with the anti-war song he wrote.
I still have - in a box somewhere - the single,"The UniversaL Soldier" - heard often at Vietnam War protests. (And when a radio station somewhere banned it, naturally that helped its protest song credentials..)
I was intrigued that no major artist recorded a cover version - or none that I heard. Was it considered a career risk, I wonder?
The song was open to a variety of arrangements & styles, but seemed to remain the preserve of its author.
As I guess the "Intergalactic Laxative" did ..?
