| 713424 | 2008-10-20 10:35:00 | Hi all I received an OEM copy of Works 9 with my new laptop. As I already had Office Enterprise 2007 I installed this and installed my OEM Works 9. I decided to install the Works 9 OEM (I have OEM Disk) on my husbands new laptop but here's the problem. I have no product key?? The paper cover for the OEM disk has a MS certificate of authenticity sticker with tracking ID but no product key. Is there any way to find the key?? Many thanks Meg |

If its possible to find the key and transfer it, Im not sure. But I would say you will have to buy Works 9 so you can get a key and install it to hubbys laptop |

| 713428 | 2008-10-20 19:52:00 | The OEM version of Works does not require a Product key (well 8.5 doesn't) But legally you are only allowed to install it on one PC/Laptop. Just because you have the CD doesn't mean you are allowed to install it on as many PC's as you want. OEM software is meant to be sold/installed with the appropriate hardware, legally its not transferable to other PC's either.( but people do) If your hubby has a new Laptop then the software should have been sold with the laptop, if works wasn't installed on your own laptop, then generally, it could be installed on hubby's, as it is new. BUT not both. There are some editions that come with Name Brand PC's that have the code that only allows it to be installed on certain PC's - an example is Compaq's, you can download some software from the HP site, but it wont install unless it finds the code embedded by HP on the drive. If the OEM software needs a Product key it will have been supplied with the CD/DVD, and could be generally installed on any hardware under the licensing terms of the software --- 1 PC/Laptop. |

| 713432 | 2008-10-20 22:12:00 | OEM software is usually licensed to run on the PC it was originally installed on, and it dies with that PC. Hence Windows OEM is cheaper but you cannot transfer it to another PC (in terms of the motherboard/BIOS) |
