491246 2006-10-15 03:48:00 Govt just announced that it will prohibit the import of Jap imports over a certain age.... ostensibly because of their penchant for polluting our environment.

Good on them. People dont seem to care about the environment anymore...

491247 2006-10-16 09:37:00 Simple, There are too many cars now, It takes 10 years to complete a major road, By then there is more people and more cars, Plus a brand new road that encourages people to use their cars. The day the road opens it will be full.

The main toll road near where I lived in sydney was referred to as the worlds largest carpark.....

As to removing the car mentality, Impossible to do just by sugesting it, The answer imo is to stop jap imports which will drive the price of cars back up within a decade, Sink a few billion into public transport, and have Government subsidesed motor-scooters for everyone on their 16th birthday, Infact make that a step in the lisence, Force people (especially kids) to ride an under-powered scooter for 2 years.

I would also like to see the national train lines and carriges upgraded and promoted.
Toll rd in Sydney is smaller than the worlds largest car park-M25 ring rd in London.
It's like atomic power, nobody ever comes to grips with the ins and outs and comes up with a definitive answer.
