2008-10-22 23:15:00 | Have log on problem - XP home edition. When I try to log on it begins the process it flashes to the users desktop and then immediately starts to save settings and log off the user. Happens in safe mode too. Any help would be much appreciated | wlowscrk (395) | |

2008-10-23 00:14:00 | It may have a virus or malware on it. If you've got a spare PC, connect it as a slave (if its IDE), and scan it with a virus scanner | Speedy Gonzales (78) | |

2008-10-24 00:20:00 | Removed all malware, trojans etc and it still does the logging on and logging off loop. Guess I am looking at a reinstall but I would sure like to know what caused this. If it was my own laptop I would continue trying to fix it but the owner needs it back tomorrow morning. Thanks for the help | wlowscrk (395) | |

2008-10-24 00:36:00 | Then just do a Repair install. Thanks will do that - still bugs me tho and probably will for some time until I chuck it in the 'things I am not meant to know' basket. Wished I hadn't finished the The Witcher now - could do with flinging a sword about for an hour or two for stress relief. :badpc:

2008-10-24 00:42:00 | Only other reason it maybe looping is: Its a Dell / HP AMD system. And XP SP3 was installed prior, to it looping

2008-10-24 01:24:00 | yes I suppose that is a possibility as it has AMD processor but when I have come across the AMD/SP3 prob before it usually causes Windows rebooting. Here Windows seems to load okay just can't get any further than the log on screen. Click on one of the users and it says loading settings and you get a brief glimpse of their background then it says saving settings then logs user off. So going to back up their data to be on the safe side and do as pctek suggests. | wlowscrk (395) | |
